Has anyone here ever put concrete worktops in their kitchen? I saw the website of a UK company that does this type of product, they had various colours and thickness' and looked fantastic. Just wondered if anyone had done any DIY versions?
I have no idea what type of aggregates or dyes would be needed to acheive a nice looking counter top, any ideas out there?

Haven't done it myself but I've seen finished counters etc in polished concrete and they look fantastic. I came across an article on the subject in a book published by Taunton in the US, might be worth googling. Concrete can be dyed and the use of coloured aggregates/ sand/ cement etc can all be used to great effect.

Yeah, polished concrete is great , you can put marble chips and glass chips in, it gives a lovely effect. I have polished concrete floors from rough right up to 300-400 Grit, which is like a polished marble finish.

You will need specialised grinding diamond heads for cutting and finishing, it’s quite tricky to get right.

Polished conc can look great. DIY isn't impossible especially if using coloured aggregates.
Using concrete dye is a different story IMO. It takes experience and practice, to lay dye correctly. It very difficult to get a "consistant" colour!

I looked into doing my own concrete countertop bought all the books. Which are great and have great ideas. But as the other half pointed out. I am not as good at diy as I think I am. I went and costed everything most things you have to have shipped in from the States. By the time we added it all up it worked out cheaper as long as no mistakes where made. So for a finish we got Celtic crete designs to do our countertop. And ya turned out amazing. I am going to ask a friend of mine for tech advice on how to post a pic of it. I am going to try a small project of a table or something.

Yea, I think I would need to try a few small samples befor I tried anything bigger. Thanks for the links above also. I might get some books on it and educate myself a little better.
