Limerick Animal Welfare currently have several lovely rabbits seeking homes, including a lop and an angora. As far as I know, they are all neutered and vaccinated. For more info, you'd need to ring the sanctuary on 063 91110 or 087 6371044. :)

    That's good to hear! :)

Just to clarify - the place in Kilfinane is not a pound, it's the Limerick Animal Welfare sanctuary. We're a charity.

A pound is a place where the local authority contains stray dogs.

The RSPCA recommends that in a hutch/run situation, it's best to keep only two rabbits. The easiest combination to mix is a neutered male with a neutered female.

I hope the hutch is going to be big enough, and that you won't keep them locked in there all the time - the hutch is really just for sleeping and shelter - think of it like a horse's stable. The rabbits will need to spend time roaming in a run (minimum 2m square) or out about in your garden under your supervision, provided it's safely enclosed and it's not shared with other pets.

    The minimum recommended hutch size is 150cm long, 60cm wide and 60cm high. (6ft x 3ft x 2.6ft)

You'll find pics of all our bunnies here:

(Mocha, Loppy, Skippy and Roo are permanent residents and not for rehoming, but the others are.)

Also, what is the donation for rabbits?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,189 ✭✭✭boomerang

Best to discuss that with the staff at the sanctuary. Bear in mind that each rabbit will have been neutered and fully vaccinated. If you were to buy a rabbit in a pet shop, wouldn't they be €40 or €50? And that cost wouldn't include vaccinations or neutering. I don't know, but a donation for each rabbit of roughly that amount sounds about right, given the money that has been spent on their veterinary care. :)

If you can't get through on either of the phone numbers above (Saturdays are hectic at the sanctuary!) ring Ann on 087 2744896 - she's working at the sanctuary tomorrow and that's her work number. You can tell her Aisling gave you her number. :)

    Directions:

You'll be coming in from Oola on the main Tipperary - Limerick road passing through Pallasgreen, Dromkeen and Boher. About half a mile after the village of Boher you'll be turning left on to the R513, signposted for Caherconlish and Mitchelstown.

Continue straight through Caherconlish towards Mitchelstown, through the villages of Hospital, Knocklong and into Garryspillane.

Half a mile after the Maxol petrol station in Garryspillane, turn RIGHT at the junction at Garryspillane Post Office, signposted Kilfinane 9kms.

After 3.5 miles, you will come to a junction with a red haybarn on your lefthand side and a signpost for Martinstown to the right. Turn LEFT here, heading uphill.

At the top of the hill, turn RIGHT at the T-junction.

Half a mile down the hill, you will come to an unmarked junction with a turn to the left. Turn LEFT here, heading back uphill.

The Sanctuary is half a mile up the hill on the lefthand side.
