    Thanks. It was the kit lens. The deer were pretty tame and used to people once you didn't move too quickly.

    Experimenting with longish exposures - hand-held with IS. I didn't realise until recently that it's a good idea to turn off IS if the camera's on a tripod.

    I'm slowly coming to terms with the 1000D - it doesn't help that it only came with Danish, Swedish and Finnish manuals!
