Is it not a Eadd9 chord ala Andy Sumners (Message in a bottle, every Breath you take)?

I think Eadd9 and Esus2 contain the exact same notes. The difference between the two chords is that the F# is an octave higher in the Eadd9.
    But I could be mistaken.

Nah he's right it's add9 as the 3rd is left in. If the 2nd was replacing the 3rd it would be a sus2

You probably were doing an A5 power chord but you've included the open strings so it would be something like an A7sus2

Yeah, that was intended. I wanted to see who'd catch it. It's A7sus2. Good job! :)

    F#flat5?

  • Registered Users Posts: 829 ✭✭✭MattKid

    nope
I admit I did get it from Ted Greene's Chord Chemistry book

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,721 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

    I was thinking it was F# add9
    But i know thats wrong.
    This is tough enough

Oops, I thought there was also a F# on the B string not an F.

I'm still going to try for F#maj7flat5 as you have the F# root, Bflat 3rd, C (the flattened 5th) and F the major 7th. Not sure if F#maj7flat5 is the correct way to write it though.
Is this the Thoelonius Monk chord?

In the spirit of keeping the thread alive and because it might also be the above I'll let you know what Ted Greene says it is.

    D7#9+

I don't know where I got that from.

Trust me for trying to visualise a fretboard when I'm tired!

    C#

I was messing around with it last night, it sounds cool. You're close enough, it's C#Major7th. :)

I know how you got F#sus2, you put in an F# where it's actually an F.

You have the root, major third, fifth and root of C#. Where's the maj7th? Shouldn't there be a C somewhere, perhaps that should be an 8 (C) on the high E?

    :o My bad... I made a bit of a mistake with it. Yeah you're right, it's just C#. :p

Good I'm glad I wasn't going completely mad.

Here's one I know what the added intervals are but the correct way of writing it I'm not 100% sure of.

    e|--0---|
    B|--3---|
    G|--0--|
    D|--4--|
    A|--3---|
    E|--X---|

Csus2b5, I'm not sure how to write it properly either.
It a really nice soundinig chord but I've never been able to work it into a song yet.:(

    How about
    e|--0---|
    B|--0---|
    G|--6--|
    D|--6--|
    A|--7---|
    E|--5---|

    it's not a sus 2 as the 3rd is there so it's an add 9 and it's not a b5 as the 5th is still there so it's a #11

    Cadd9#11 maybe it's official name
Sounds nice if a little predictable if you alternate with. I just use these two as substitutes when playing a slow song in G.

Something like City of Chicago by Christy Moore, they work really well in places and as an intro.

    e|--0---|
    B|--3---|
    G|--0--|
    D|--4--|
    A|--X---|
    E|--0---|

Ah, these are the things you never learn when you're self thought and never bothered to read any theory properly!! :p

With my new found knowledge, could the last chord you posted also be a Em7add9?
