    Hi

My brother was on holiday until recently and he arrived back in Dublin airport to find that the buggy he had spent over €700 on was badly damaged beyond repair.

He arranged the holiday with John Cassidy Travel and was flying with Futura, with Servisair being involved somewhere, possibly the baggage handling.

He approached both Futura and Servisair who both seemed very unhelpful at the time and they told him to write a letter and see what happens.

Has anyone any experience of this before and is there any quick solution ? That kind of money isn't floating around for a man with a very young family.

    Thanks :)

Write the letter and see what happens. If nothing does small claime court is the next step.

Can your brother take some photos of the damage to include in his letter. Also does he have a record of his complaint to Futura/baggage handler, or know the names of the staff he spoke to.
I'm sure travel insurance would cover this but there would be an excess on any claim.
Hope it works out ok for him.
We specifically got a Quinny Zapp for travel as we didn't trust an airline not to wreak even a clapped out buggy leaving us without one abroad. The Zapp will fit into overhead lockers on board, it comes with it's own carry bag & we just bring it as carry-on. You can get them on Ebay a bit cheaper than in the shops here.

There are other threads here about actual baggage being damaged. The impression I got from the other stories is that you will be fobbed off to see if you will go away, but you are entitled to compensation, (based on what Ive read here before*). So do not give up on this, keep pushing, and yes go SCC, its cheap and easy.

*Sorry for not linking any threads. Work calls. :)

    sorry..this is little off topic..but...

went away a few weeks go and when we reached our final destination (a good 5/6 hrs after checking our bags in, one of the bags was soaking wet (probably from being left outside in dublin airport- we went one of them really wet days).

Made a complaint to the baggage staff..they were very reluctant to even listen to the issue let alone log the complaint. Stood my ground and made them register the complaint.....and have heard nothing from them since.

luckily nothing was damaged from this..but it would seem that they dont care about your luggage!

With episodes like this, to be in with any chance of compensation you have to fill out a PIR ( property irregularity report ) BEFORE leaving the airport. this is where the airline / service providor document your complaint. Insurance companies will not pay out if the PIR is not completed. The staff in Dublin Airport should have told him this though tut tut to them!

Write in and see how you get on, then go to claims court. It could be tough though to prove it defo happened while in care of airport staff.

Thanks for the replies guys. Ill show him this thread later on and advise accordingly. These guys really don't give a **** and will try to worm their way out of helping in any way they can. Unfortunately an expensive mistake. I hope people reading this are warned now.

    Thanks again :)
