do you know how to extract it? download and install winrar if you don't have it.

p.s. if i've stated the obvious here, apologies. but i've seen people here before who didn't know about winrar.

edit: forgot to say thanks for the link Zabbo.

Do you need to have 8.02 installed for this to work?

i don't think so. it's only an updated database, it has nothing to do with the game engine.

it says it in the first post... nm, i'll try help.

when you installed Football manager it will have created a folder called Sports Interactive somewhere in your 'My Documents' Folder

navigate to "Sports Interactive/Football Manager 08/db"

the .rar you download will have a folder called "ADDM '09 Data Update" (as well as aunch of text files). extract and copy this folder and its contents into the "db" folder i mentioned above.

To use the database, start a new game. When creating your new game, if you put the did the above correctly, you will have the option of which database to choose; select ADDM '09 Data Update'.

    and that should be it.

That was already included. It came in automatically after the first season.

8.02 is the update that implemented that. can get it of the SIgames forum.

Does anyone find the patches slow down the game quite a bit? Have a new laptop, and the game plays very slowly with the updates.

Download a programme called Winrar. Just type it into Google, it will download free in less than a minute.

Downloaded the db and Winrar. Do I have to drop the Winrar file into the same place as the updated db?

Go into the update, and in the top left cornr there will be an extract option. Extarct it into the db file.

    that's because you don't just put them all into the db file. each database has it's own folder in the db one to identify it, so all the .dats should be in the following path;

My Documents > Sports Interactive > Football Manager 2008 > db > ADDM '09 Data Update

and and on top of the dats, there should be two sub folders added, 'edt' and 'lnc'. the edt will have something like finances_fixed.dat and the lnc will actually be empty, but it's still needed.

and remember you still have to select the database when starting a new game, it wont do it automatically.

    hope that helps.

the wizard should ask you (usually one of the first questions it asks)
if not check in the advanced options, there's usually a dropdown list you can choose from.

Ok, here's what I've done so far:

    - Downloaded the db file and winrar.
    - Moved the db file to the location mentioned above (several times!)
    - Right clicked and opened the file with winrar
    - Clicked on 'extract to' and put the files in the same location.

Is all of that correct? If not, where am I going wrong and what next?!

these are probably stupid questions :o, but any help greatly appreciated! :)

The problem here is that when you initially extract the file it creates a folder called ADDM '09 Data Update v1.0 (or whatever version you are using) along with a sub-folder called ADDM '09 Data Update. It's this sub folder that you want to place in the db folder.

So what you do is extract the file to the following path:

    My Documents > Sports Interactive > Football Manager 2008 > db >

and make sure that you are copying ADDM '09 Data Update into the database, and not ADDM '09 Data Update v1.0.

If you simply place the later folder in (though it contain the correct sub-folder) I wont be read.

If you have done this correctly you will asked to choose between databases when you first start a game. In my case I had a choice between either v 8.02 or ADDM '09 Data Update.
