How good are iPod/Mp3 connections to cars?

I guess I'm specifically asking about the USB type, not the audio connection types. Do you just get a list of all tracks on the device or can the system in some way view playlists/tracklists/albums/etc?

It all depends on what you buy.

My last two radios have had a built in ipod connection that charges the ipod as well. I can choose artists songs etc etc. It all depends on what the radio is set up for.
