Ok, so Im not even sure if Im in the right forum. Looking for a bit of advice. I lost my car key last week. Drive an 01 Opel Vectra. I then found the car key a few miles from my house. It was in two pieces but slotted back in pefectly together. It still locks and unlocks the doors and when put in the ignition it sounded ok but it just will not tick over. I have since found out that the "chip" is gone from my key. As I bought the car privately I do not even know where to start looking. I have been told I need to get the immobiliser pin number for my key.
    Anyone any advise or suggestions?
    Thanks in advance, Amy :)

Go to your nearest dealer with the registation certificate. Using the VIN number they should be able to track this info down from you, probably for a small fee.

Different immobiliser systems work in different ways. You are lucky in so far as the Opel system is easy enough to sort in this situation.
The number that you require is available from the dealer for a small fee. This number is what is used as a password to allow a new key to be programmed. Because you are missing the transponder chip you will need one of these also. A good locksmith or specialist should be able to supply this. In some cases a locksmith or diagnostic specialist can read the code out of the car too.
Once you have the chip in the key and the code to hand it is the necessary to program the key. Again, a good locksmith or a diagnostic specialist will do this for you.
