Blackberry Pearl 8100 working with Pay as you go Vodafone

Hi Guys, I am wondering is there anyway I can use the Pearl I just bought to get access to my emails as Vodafone customer service says this facility is only available to Pay Monthly customers? I use to have a Nokia N70 and could access my gmail account. I am really new to this, so help would be greatly appreciated.
