im having weird issues too, mainly browsing, it hangs on most pages for 15-30 seconds, pings to boards.ie fluctuate from my usual 51ms to ~74
    1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.2.1
    2 47 ms 47 ms 47 ms 192.168.1.1
    3 105 ms 49 ms 50 ms 194.46.193.66
    4 50 ms 50 ms 49 ms 193.95.145.27
    5 73 ms 71 ms 71 ms vlan74.rt002.cwt.esat-x.com [193.95.130.225]

    6 70 ms 70 ms 70 ms 193.95.129.20
    7 92 ms 92 ms 93 ms to-inex-dub-deg-gw.digiweb.ie [193.242.111.20]
    8 74 ms 73 ms 74 ms ip-89-234-66-107.dedi.digiweb.ie [89.234.66.107]

WTF's with 22ms for that hop????????

i can get 300-400kilobytes per second fluctuating download( nothing weird there on my 4Mb connection ), it just seems to be opening sessions/pings are a problem

If all UTV can do is throw their hands in the air and blame Eircom - and we all continue to PAY UTV - then what is likely to change? I'm assuming UTV keep on paying Eircom for the line so we, the customers, are the only losers in all this :mad::mad:
Does anyone know what our rights are in this as regards paying for a non-existant service? I know we can't just stop payments, but surely we have some access to redress! If this goes on much longer, we are being royally ripped off while UTV and Eircom can laugh all the way to the bank.

    On 9th 10pm between 200 and 400Kb on 3Mb link.
Why am I paying for this - surely UTV should foot the bill ?

I spoke to eircom today and spoke to lots of people incl tech support and cust service - none knew of any issues in my area or related to upgrades.
Could it be a UTV problem. ?

I will check with a neighbour who is with another ISP - if UTV is right then they should be affected also ?

I also plan to pass this link to ComReg as charging for this crap service is not on.

UTV in Dublin 7 on 3mb clicksilver and I'm only getting 479 kb/sec on speedtest and 978 kbps on smart's test page this evening. Pretty much sh1te. Was getting up to 4790 kb/sec when they first did the 7.6mb upgrade (my router shows a 6144 kbps connection). Will be recording speeds over the next few days/weeks and if it doesn't improve I'm off to UPC I guess!

Spoke to CS just now, told straight away that speeds are being throttled by Eircom, causing problems for lots of customers in Dublin area, Eircom having problems since the upgrades and are throttling in order to prevent the system falling over. He indicated that there was some surprise at the upgrades being implemented - concern that the infrastructure wasn't up to it. Issue has been escalated to Eircom management, some resolution was expected last week, but no indication as yet of when it might be resolved.

    Ritz.

Finally, a straight answer. Thats the main problem here. It only took 3 (?) weeks to get it. I can't understand why they didnt just say that weeks ago.

In fairness to UTV, I think they are getting shafted by Eircon like everyone else, but seeing as we cannot get onto eircom about it, its left to UTV which is why we pay them.

I haven't got onto them about this as its pointless and my phone bill would be sky high from being on hold so long. Too mean to pay 10 quid an hour to hire someone else on the phones ??? and this is all year round, not just when theres problems.

Eircon are a shower of *******, but at the end of the day, I'm probably going to move to them, as will thousands of customers as other ISP's cannot provide a steady good service. Sad but true. Its in their interest to light fires under Eircons asses to get this sorted as we cannot.

All the irish ISP's need to join together and get politicians moving on freeing up this countries lines. Major companies like that going to politicians could easily get it changed or bring it to the european courts. The old saying strength lies in unity!

I could safely say, that we probably have the worst internet speeds of all the developed countries in the world as well as the most expensive. I'm getting 5.8 kb/s download on broadband for 55 euro/month, and this in 2008!! Don't get me started on the 26 quid a month line rental. Time to stand up!!!

Have people tried the other Irish speedtest servers? I sometimes notice quite a difference between the Limerick server and the Dublin one.

Although it sticks in my craw to have to say it, I'm probably going to have to consider changing to Eircom too, once my contract with UTV is up. At least then I can have a direct line of complaint to the company serving my line. If UTV as the middlemen in this fracas can't or won't do a good job on my behalf, despite willingly taking my money, then what option do I have? If I could avail of cable in my area I would definitely switch! I really need to seriously investigate other options - download today is 41kbps

I've beeen getting kak speeds for weeks now. They couldv'e sent an email saing there maybe a disruption in service.

With the speeds and the fact they never told me the price of the 3mb line had dropped by €10 a month and then they wanted me to sign up to a year contract i'm really giked off with them. I'm going to try UPC again(last time they lost my order)

    Hi,

There currently is a speed issue on Eircom exchanges which have received upgrades in order to improve the network. A fault has been logged for Eircom to investigate and resolve this issue and the fault has been escalated to Comreg at this stage. I apologise for the inconvenience caused and the delay in resolving the issue.

    Kind Regards,
    A***** R******

Not that anything will change, or Comreg will get off their arses!!

Although, I then tested Limerick and Galway on Speedtest.net.

Here are the results. Oh, and Dublin once more too. Sure why not!!!? :D

Go Figure!!! Does anyone know how that speedtest thing works??

Surely if WestNet, FWI and Airwire are having issues, that will reflect on the test too?? I know it's not an exact science but is there any element of accuracy......?
