Just moved back home after a year living away and new laptop so can't connect to wireless at home without security key. Problem is someone wrote it down and lost it. Is it possible to generate it from one of the other pcs at home or do I need to contact eircom? Am piggybacking on an extremely slow unsecure connection so need it fixed quick.

Yes you can get it from one of the other pc's. Open your internet browser and type 192.168.1.254 into the address bar.

This will get you onto the router page. On the left you should be able to find a link to "Wireless" and on this page you can see the internet key

Try hooking the router up to the machine via ethernet, go into your web browser and enter the url http://192.168.1.254 , Once in click the 3d wireless button and your WEP/WPA key is displayed there

Log into the router via ethernet(presubably its a netopia) http://192.168.1.254 and just change the wireless password - preferably change to wpa too if it has not already been done. Save your settings and you should be away.
