Requirements for gas in sitting room??

Hi i am thinking of putting a gas fire in a new build sitting room, that or electric. I was at the Self Build Show and it was the first place i actually seen the electric ones. look like a plasma screen off the wall, you know the type. Well, the electric would mean no need for chimney or nothing, just a live wire.

My other choice is gas, i have seen nice displays of gas fire, cobble stones, and flame up through it etc... . . but if i was to take this route what would i need? gas feed for starters from a cylinder. but what else? chimney? Ventilation? do i have to put in a chimney/ventilation straight up from where the fire is? because id have to tinker with the plans if so. ( could you have a flex hose for ventilation and bring it up walls. . . I have come to the fact that the open fire is gone, I want to be with the crowd in the future and i think open fires if not already will soon fade out.

So, to make it short, what are the installation requirements for Gas fire in sitting room.

    Thanks in advance

    LNB
