Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Questions about setup between Sky box and Sony HDD Recorder (HXD790)

    Heyho,

I'm thinking about getting a HDD recorder to replace a VCR. I currently have Sky, but don't think I want the hassle of upgrading to Sky+ (though maybe this thread will change my mind)

From reading this forum, I see the Sony HDX range getting recommendations, so I'm considering the current base model (HXD790)

Heres how I think it will work:

Minidish --[co-ax]--> Sky Box --[SCART]--> HDD --[HDMI]--> TV

Currently the sky box is connected to the TV via scart, so I don't think this setup will dis-improve my picture.

    So my questions:

    1) Does this setup make sense or am I being stupid about something?
    2) Is the EPG likely to work with this setup - does the guideplus info broadcast over sky?
    3) Is there a different way to link the sky and HDD boxes, to get better picture?
    4) Should I just get sky+ instead? advantages/disadvantages?

    Many thanks, all input welcome...

    Dave

i would get a sky+ box instead. I have this setup but with a 970. It works grand, but you have to use the remote for the sony box to set record events via it's epg etc and wire the glink 'remote ctrl' unit to sit above the sky box remote input. You can't record one thing and watch another either which is the key problem.

basically when you set something to record on the sony, it switches the sky box to the correct channel and records it. You also have to have the sony unit off for this to happen. So all in all you are replicating what sky+ does, but not as well.

I went with this as I have a shared dish and can't run a second cable from it for sky+. It works ok, but is nothing like as easy and convenient as sky+. It's a no brainer imo to get sky+ if you have the option.
