I would say no, and I get stuck there 4/5 times a week. Any and all money for this corridor has to go into the M20 and the N72 east/west route in Mallow and also the N40 North Ring in Cork. No half baked relief roads to line developers pockets and ultimately create more congestion.

The sooner the preferred route is selected and defined and this racket of routing via Cahir to link the "busy" corridor between Limerick and Waterford is put in the ****ing bin the better.

By the way, regarding length, the mainline of the M20 will be approx 80km from Patrickswell to the Blarney interchange on the N20. This will include between 15km and 20km of online motorway building, so the greenfield element will be approx 60-65km, not 105km.

The 105km may include the M40 link to Glanmire, and the Mallow N72 east/west link. M20-old had a link road at Charleville, however hopefully this gets shelved and there is a junction with the R515 west of Charleville and the N20 near Ballyhea in addition to the O'Rourkes Cross junction. Access to Charleville and key regional routes that feed into the N20 was shambolic in the old M20 plan.

Is there a confirmed route yet? Will the N20 still be in operation after it is built or is there an overlap in sections? Have the junctions been confirmed? Thanks.

1. No confirmed route yet.
2. The old M20 plan had the motorway using the existing road along the Croom bypass and the section from north of Rathduff to Blarney. The new M20 will probably do the same but we haven't got that far yet.

It will enhance access to Raheen though as a lot of Raheen traffic has to use the N20 coming from Cork. When the M20 is complete Raheen will be an attractive location (as if it already isn't) for busjness

I was talking about the business park which has direct access to the M20. There are several companies in there with sites in both Limerick and Cork which will benefit them and may encourage further investment (Stryker, Analog Devices, Dell/EMC)

The fact that it has direct access will do it a world of good. Castletroy industrial access is often backed up by traffic.

That technology park is typical Irish haphazard "planning". A continually expanding business park with terrible road access and sharing road access with a continually expanding university.

If this was to be the way things are a new access road should've been ploughed into Castletroy from the M7. Save the place from being choked

I suppose it lacked foresight. It would have been on the old Dublin road but now like you said has to contend with an ever increasing population, schools and the university.

Correct, it was of its time and in many ways the concept was quite novel at the time, creating employment adjacent to a Higher Education Facility.
It was also adjacent to a major trunk road, today the TII would be up in arms if you proposed such a facility adjacent to a Motorway and I'd say that they are quite comfortable with the facility as it stands.

As they should be. the Motorways are largely to bypass areas at decent speed. Put UL and big industry right next to them and it will have a significant effect on traffic. Witness the M50 with the massive shopping centres at each exit stopping play.

I would say 4.5 years planning and 3.5 years construction. The M17/M18 took less than 3 years for 57km of motorway

Opening in mid to late 2026.

Route selection/initial design to start in 2018, planning submission in late 2020/early 2021, construction to start in 2022/early 2023. I would hope to see some kind of reform over the next few years to speed up planning for major infrastructure projects.

There won't be many other projects active in 2020-2023 so this will be able to gobble a decent wedge of funding.
