Seaweed - a fertilizer? a slug repellent?

Good anti slug idea I hear but does it "sting" young plants?

As a fertilizer is it any good (any side effects) or was it the only option in famine times?

Seaweed is a great fertiliser with lots of valuable trace elements. If put on the soil in autumn the salt should have neutralised by spring, If you put it on in spring make sure it's well washed. Seaweed can have a tendency to smell and attract flies though.

Great fertiliser but it stinks and gets fairly slimy as it decomposes.

It makes a great liquid feed. Simply pack a bucket about 3/4 full with seaweed and top up with ordinary tap water, cover and leave for 4-6 weeks until it has turned into a creamy thick paste, add water at 10: 1 and Bob's your uncle. I'm not sure as to it's value as a slug repellent but I presume the salt content in its solid form would be a deterrent.

Are egg shells good for the soil as well?

Eggshells are good for the soil , they take a bit of time to break down but add calcium to the soil . sprinkle around plants that slugs like. they are reluctant to crawl over the shells.

Good dual purpose there temp slug repellent / later good for the soil.

Can barbeque charcoal be used as a fertilizer to throw / dig in to soil?
Is it far to acid? (Ive no idea)
