Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

And ferguson to do his stuff prior to the game and have masch sent off ;)

Haha - I think Masch is well capable of getting himself sent off, he should be better able to handle the pressure being a year older and wiser, would be a shame if he bottled again and talked himself off the pitch like last year.

If being a year older and wiser stops players been sent off for stupid reasons, then what's Paul "volleyball" Scholes excuse?!;)

It would be madness to play that formation against a free flowing attacking United, even at home.

Err what ? The formation above has 2 holding midfielders and is much better defensively than a 4-4-2 with Gerrard as one of the central 2.

Was waiting for someone to comment on that.

As regard to to assertions that Kuyt should be put in there due to his work rate alone. Gerard is a vastly superior player and offers more defensively than Kuyt.

Sticking Kuyt in there now and again when we had no choice is one thing but the signing of Keane and Riera has to relegate him to the bench.

This is a quality starting line up and could compete with any team in the PL:

    Reina
    Arbeloa
    Carra
    Skrtel
    Aurelio
    Alonso
    Masch
    ----Gerard
    Keane
    Riera---
    Torres

    This has obvious short comings:

    Reina
    Arbeloa
    Carra
    Skrtel
    Aurelio
    Alonso
    Masch
    ---Kuyt
    Gerard
    Benny---
    Torres

He doesn't need excuses I'm sure he admits being one of the dirtiest cheats in football, hopefully wont hit alonso again and bottle it.

In fairness Liverpool fans quabbling over which formation to play against United is akin to a death row inmate deciding which shirt to wear to his execution. It won't make much difference when tomorrow comes.

Yeah but if we played an 8-1-1 formation there would be a very good chance that we could get a 0-0 draw, whereas if we played a 1-1-8 formation we would more than likely get hammered, so it does make a bit of a difference in all fairness.

The Formation I suggested still has 2 defensive midfielders in Mach and Gerrard, playing 5 in midfield will give Liverpool a better shape and a better chance against United.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,283 ✭✭✭Smegball

I've a really weird feeling Van Der Sar will make a major cock up today! Don't ask why!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Dropping Gerrard into central midfield is an offensive move, not a defensive move. 5 will play in midfield, 2 holding, Gerrard Keane and Riera.

United won't play free flowing football against Liverpool at Anfield, are you nuts. They'll keep it tight, attack on the break with pace, use the new option of Berbatov, and hope to run a smash and grab. That's how United play away against any decent team, its how you have to play away against any decent team.

Would anybody really be surprised if in 3 hours everyone came on here and the debate was 'Well Liverpool dominated possession', 'But the possession wasn't used well' 'We created this this and this chance' 'But we took the one chance we had'

    Man Utd Team

    VDS
    BROWN
    RIO
    VIDIC
    EVRA
    ANDERSON
    SCHOLES
    CARRICK
    ROONEY
    TEVEZ

    Liverpool Team
Reina, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Carragher, Skrtel, Alonso, Mascherano, Riera, Benayoun, Keane, Kuyt.

Subs: Cavalieri, Dossena, Hyypia, Ngog, Torres, Gerrard, Babel.

So Torrres & Gerrard on the bench & Riera gets his first start

    VDS
    --Brown
    Rio
    Vidic
    Evra-
    Carrick----Scholes
    --Tevez
    Rooney
    Anderson-
    Berbatov

    vs.

    Reina
    --Arbeloa----Carragher--Skrtel---Aurelio-
    Alonso----Mascherano
    --Kuyt
    Benayoun
    Riera--
    Keane

United have no excuse not to win this, by far the better 11 on paper. United look like they are going attacking ish though, leaving out Hargreaves. Try to win the game before Torres and Gerrard get on I'd say. Still, expect Anderson to drop into midfield a lot to sure it up.

Thats a balanced team if thats the formation, I like Benny behind the striker.

Liverpool Subs: Cavalieri, Dossena, Hyypia, Ngog, Torres, Gerrard, Babel.

I don't see that team getting past United. Unless the plan is to bring on Torres and Gerrard fresh early in the second half, assuming it's still nil nil at that point.

Unless Reine and Keane make in INSTANT connection.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

That United team is very very exciting...and the most boldest team ever to play at Anfield.

Interesting to see how this goes!

Rafa Benitez being slated to high heaven by Jamie Redknapp.

    Clown!!

I sure as hell hope no Pool fans can say they still like Redknobb!

Maybe it's just me generally not having much Benayoun love but I'd rather Babel.

Apart from Hargreaves and Ronaldo missing, that's probably my favourite United team. It'll be interesting to see how the Rooney-Berbie-Tevez attack works out, particularly in terms of wide positions, because we haven't a winger on that team.

Good reading from Keys there. Showing a Liverpool goal V Utd with the caption "March 1995" and he's saying "this from 1994":) (I realise he probably meant 94-95 season but still)
