There's one somewhere between Skerries, Rush and Lusk. I'm always seeing him there.

To be honest gents, if you want to see these cars, go to Ely Place near Baggot Street. With the legal/financial firms there, there's an absolute tonne of them.

Don't think any of those can be realistically VRT'd anymore. Revenue treat valuable classic cars separately apparently, so a 60's Ferrari, which might only have cost a few thousand new at the time, will not be assessed for VRT based on that, but on current value.

    What makes you say that?

Afaik, all classics overs 30 years old qualify for the €200 VRT flat rate. There was talk of Revenue changing the classification of certain cars, but thankfully that didnt happen (for cars over 30 yrs old anyway).

My friend who owns the F40 told me. That was 3 years ago though.

As far as I know the Owner of the f40 also owns a Ferrari 250 swb among a whole fleet of other super nice cars.

You'd be surprised what's hid away in good old Ireland ;)

I know of another Irish F40, same owner has a 991 GT3 RS among their toys.

Think there are 3 in the country if I'm not mistaken?

VRT on any 60's classic, even the massively valuable ones, is €200, and was three years ago too. Perhaps you're talking about VAT on non-EU imports?

Would that be a guy from a farming family who now owns some sort of a steel business? I seen a 991 GT3 RS lately and the owners name escapes me but it was a story along those lines :o

Ferrari F40's were built from 1987 to 1992 so three years ago even the earliest example would NOT have been under 30 years old - hence wouldnt have qualified to be in the €200 VRT bracket.

Gonna reply to a 9 year old thread because..why not, this thread is gold!

That 70’s Maserati in Castletroy you saw may have been a Matra Bagheera X. It’s a classic 70’s wedge and probably even rarer. It was owned by a doctor who brought it with him from overseas. A unique feature is 3 front seats - shamelessly copied by the Maclaren f1 years later :-)

Went to boarding school in Sligo in the mid 80's. There was a yellow 911 carrera there, driven by a woman, seemingly was previously owned by Phil Coulter, sttod out well in Sligo back then!

Also late 80's there was a 70's maserati around limerick, saw it a few times in the castletroy area.

    Kevin, you are the man!

I came here to ask if anyone knew of a Ferrari 400 in Limerick. It was the first Ferrari I ever saw as a car obsessed kid. It was the early 80’s and it pulled into the petrol station in Ballyneety. He floored it as he took off much to the delight of the small assembled crowd.

What else can you tell me about it? I remember it as black or dark blue.

Paul Darragh the showjumper owned a Mondial ZS3030 that used to be around Dublin but I have not seen it in recent years.

2VIU is an immaculate Ferrari 400 still living in Limerick as far as I know.
1VIU was a Silver Shadow that belonged to playwright Hugh Leonard, I often wondered if it was coincidence or were the two cars imported together.

Anyone remember the Delorean that used to sit on Cornelscourt hill? There was also some sort of three seater sports car up on bricks beyond Enniskerry near enough to Tony Doyle coaches.

Mentioned this earlier, there was a 3 seater 70’s style coupe in Limerick in the 80’s - it was a Matra Bagheera X. Possibly the same car - how many 3 seaters can there be?

I saw a BMW Z1 in Ballycoolin the other day, doors were down and was mint. I wonder how much they're worth, I've only ever seen 3 of them.

Does anyone remember the yellow Lotus Esprit in Limerick in the 80’s? It used to be parked at a house near Morrison’s pub on the Ballysimin road. Funny thing is the engine caught fire and the owner bought another one, also yellow, but kept the burnt out one on bricks at the side of the house. Anyone know where the ended up?

Used to be a Lamborghini Countach in Kinahans outside Moate, featured in an old Foster and Allen music video. Dunno what happened to it since though :pac:

I was looking at a Doug demuro video on the countach, he was showing how the wiper stops its sweep at 90° which is right between youre eyes and I was thinking that if that car was rhd it would be perfect but looking at that rhd one I see that Lamborghini in there intimate wisdom switched the wiper mechanism over too so its useless in rhd form too.
Beautiful car tho and not sure if id want it out in the rain anyway.

Used to see that regularly in the mid/late 80's when I was going to school in Moate. In a sea of Toyota K30's, Vw Jettas, Mk2 Escorts and Massey Ferguson's it stuck out a wee bit! :pac:

Great to see it's still being used rather than living under a dust sheet. :)

That Orange Lamborghini used to belong to a girl down Wexford direction that used to post here. Had a TVR too.

I lusted over that car when I was a young boy. A poor man's exotic car, made by Matra for Simca / Talbot

    matra-bagheera-05.jpg

I didn't realise until today that many of its parts came from the modest Simca 1100, which was our family car at the time :)

Love the styling, and the concept. But these had 84bhp at the start or 90bhp later on. Our superminis today would outdrag it. But at least you would have got there in style.

You'd be surprised. Cars were very light then (and very unsafe :D)

    1975 Matra Bagheera 0-100km/h in 12s
2018 Ford Fiesta base model 0-100km/h in 15s

And I just randomly picked the first supermini that came into my head. I expect most will roughly be in that ballpark

Well a 208 with the 82bhp unit (to be fair on bhp vs bhp) would do 0-100km/h in 12.5 seconds.

But true enough on the weight we have today and the effect it has.

Still, in the Bagheera to most people, you'd look like you'd just driven off the set of the Persuaders, and only car geeks would know the score with the performance.

And to add to that, I was wowed even more by its successor, the Matra Murena. Some of you younger posters might not agree. But that car was very futurisic looking in 1980 when I was 12 :)
