Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

32bit windows to 64bit windows

    Hi guys,

    Im currently running 32 bit windows vista ultimate, but ive been told i should be running 64bit with the computer i have (8gigs of ram etc.)

    Im pretty new to vista so i dont really understand how it works, i just installed vista ultimate and thought that was it? but after checking its running 32 bit. Ultimate has the option of running 64bit too thou as far as im aware.

    Do i need to back everything up and try a clean install? or is there a way of performing a straight upgrade?

    I am pretty sure that a clean install is the way to go. In fact it may not be possible to upgrade anyway.

    However, you need to be aware that you will need new 64bit drivers for your hardware and some of your software (Older) may not run correctly.

    Any chance you could try it on a spare disk.

    the pc is mainly for games, and all of the ones i run are supported on 64 and 32 bit. id prefer to not do a clean install because id have so much stuff to back up i literally couldnt do it.

    any other way around?

    There isn't. You must run a new installation of 64 bit Vista, and cannot do an upgrade while the old one is running.

    What stuff though? Throw all documents, movies and music on an external HD, and just make a list of all the apps you have installed. It would only take 1-2 hrs.

    Pretty sure you'd need to buy the 64bit version. As has been said you can't upgrade to 64bit from 32bit.

    There's no upgrade path from 32-bit to 64-bit, but if you have home premium or ultimate you do NOT have to pay anything extra to run 64-bit. This all assumes retail licences - I don't know how it applies to OEMs.
    With retail ultimate you get both 32 and 64-bit versions in the box. With other versions of Vista you only get 32-bit in the box but Microsoft will post you a 64-bit DVD for about a tenner.
    I did this myself - I went from 32-bit home premium to 64-bit. They sent the disc by UPS and it arrived the next morning - I suspect it cost them more than my tenner to send it. There is some page on Microsoft's website where you can apply for the 64-bit media. I'm very happy with it, and have found it to be rock solid.
