Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

Planning the house at the moment and were going to go with oil after a lot of hard decisions.

Now were looking at where to put it.

Does anyone have experience of having an oil burner in the utility room?

Is it smelly? Is it noisy?

If anyone currently has one maybe they can PM me the details.

    Thanks,
    Cormac

    Hi Cormac,

I have one and it is not noisy and it only smells when I have to bleed the oil line after we run out. Otherwise you hardly know it is there.

It's the norm to put the boiler in the utility.
There are usually no noise/smell problems.
Another option would be to get an external-type boiler - like this

    Hi..
We first built about 12 years ago... there was no utility included and so the boiler was in a special press in the fitted kitchen Gercross room sealed type boiler..
The noise is minimal and absolutely no smell at all, unless as previously said it needs to be bled, I discovered newspaper laid down first soaks up all the oil and minimises the smell..
In our current build the garage is attached so we opted to put the boiler out there and keep the utility space free..
    Cheers

I've lived in a house with boiler in kitchen. Minimal noise (no more than washing machine or microwave that were also in kitchen) and no smell. Am building at the moment and planning on one in utility. hth
