Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I was doing a bit of reading about unattended installations in Windows XP and was wondering about product activation using an answer file.

If you edit the line "ProductID=[the serial number]" can you use the same activation code then to activate multiple pc's, and will there be any further problems with this when installing updates etc?

in order to use the same key on multiple machines you must have a volume license key. Companies generally get these to install xp/vista/server x on multiple machines.

for example if you look at the dell xp cd for a winnt.sif you will find dell's generic oem key for installing from the cd. this key is fine to use on dell machines using the dell cd as there is extra code in there to check that the machine is really a dell and if it is it doesnt request an activation.

but if you take that key and try to activate/install on a non dell machine it wont work.

in order to use the same key on multiple pc's there is no legal way to do it other than a volume key.
