Every Tom, Dick and Harry in the motoring world is bringing out a SUV\4x4 vehicle these days. Land Rover is already in this market but their is no sign of them diversifying to make cars. Is this something Land Rover should be looking at. What are your opinions?

Nope. They are a pure off-road brand and building a car would dilute the appeal. Also, imagine how stupid a car called "Land Rover Citylander" would be! Finally, Jaguar and Land Rover are the same company and Jaguar make......you've guessed it....cars!:)

Porsche did it. They were a pure sports car brand and they built a 4x4

Ya'd hope they'd be more inventive than that.

Land Rover, Jaguar and Aston Martin were all owned by Ford. I think Indian car maker Tata recently bought Land Rover from Ford. Aston Martin was also sold, not sure who owns Jaguar these days though.

Land Rover always produced 4x4 vehicles and along with MINI was the most profitable part of the old British Leyland group. Owned by BMW at the time there was no need for them to produce cars as BMW already had a range of cars and Land Rovers still sold well. When Land Rover was sold to Ford, they already had Jaguar, Aston Martin and Volvo along with their own range of cars in respective markets, so Land Rover again had a healthy share of the 4x4 market so there was no need for them to compete with their sister companies while at the same time diluting the brand.

I think Indian car maker Tata recently bought Land Rover from Ford. Aston Martin was also sold (not sure to who), not sure what's the story with Jaguar.

Aston were sold to a private equity firm, Tata bought both Jaguar and Land Rover as they are the same company (same engineers, sites etc)

Weren't Rover and Land Rover the same company at one stage. If so I think Land Rover might have learnt their lesson that they (rover) can't make a good car
