Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Couple of questions

I'm considering getting a little 50cc scooter at the moment. I think it would be so handy as a runaround. I was driving scooters in Vietnam recently and found them great.

I've just been offered a 2005 MBK Flipper 50cc for €600. I was offered it by a friend, he just commuted from Dalkey to UCD on it for 2.5 years, don't think there's a huge amount of mileage on it. Is this good value?

Second question, I got my car license in June 2006. I've read in the FAQ that because I got my license before October 2006 I'm able to drive a 50cc moped with this. Does that mean I have a full license for a moped as well as a car or how does it work? Are you allowed take a pillion? A lot of the websites linked in the FAQ seem not to specify about these things.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Are you allowed take a pillion? No. its only allowed on a FULL motorbike licence, ie when you pass your driving test.

All of this stuff is explained in stickies here and on government websites etc out there on the net. safe scooting...;)

Even if you have moped entitlement on your car licence, which isn't given out any more, the moped must be restricted to 45km/h to be legal. A 50cc capable of exceeding 45km/h needs a bike licence (A or A1). Doing the test is a good idea anyway, taking lessons and preparing for it will make you safer on the road. Giving bike entitlements to car drivers with no bike experience is a really bad idea, which is why it was dropped.

    Scrap the cap!
