your second post didnt explain why someone should keep their dog on a lead during the hours that they're allowed off lead.

When I have said this Bambi?

'There are times for dogs to be off lead in that park and I would not dream of going there with my dog then because it wouldn't be fair on him or the other dogs. '

I'm not saying you're the bad guy at all. I understand your position. But can you not deal with a bad situation yourself instead of running to the dog warden?

I often wonder how we survived all those centuries with dogs with out these silly laws.

I did and I'm equally unimpressed.
If you read kllmoo'd first post properly you would have seen that he said"I walk my two in St Annes every night off the lead and never have any problems". Night time is off lead time.

I'll try to get over the fact that you're unimpressed (its going to be tough I grant you) and hopefully you can over the fact that I have a problem with people who break this rule, be they Killme00 or others.

You claimed the poster was "selfish" because he let his dog off the lead in st annes park, you appear to be making the incorrect assumption that the poster does this outside the designated hours.

I'll have to break out the finger puppets at this rate..

You do realise that your dog would only be in distress if you are.

Dog's are animals and should be socialized on and off the lead.

I have a problem with people walking their dogs off lead during the times they should be on lead. I have no problem with dogs being off lead somewhere where they are allowed to be during the appropriate times. In fact my other dog enjoys lots of off lead time in parks in the company of other dogs when legally allowed to be off lead. Its not rocket science.

You appear to be making the incorrect (?) assumption that he only walks his dogs off lead during the designated times.

Well he did say he walks them at night so we are only going on the information as presented.

Ah Lovely Tom, you'll have to return that degree in animal physchology there. It would appear you missed out on a few important modules!

When did I say that my dog wasn't socialised both on and off lead? You're just making assumptions. He gets plenty of off lead socialisation in controlled situations but I would also like to be able to lead walk him in areas where other dogs shouldn't be off lead, if that's ok with everyone here who seems to think I'm the bad guy.

Those of you who have a problem with my views should count themselves lucky they don't have a dog who through no fault of his own has some issues with some other dogs.

If people are making incorrect assumptions about it, its probably prompted by your attitude to the posters in this thread, you appear distinctly unfriendly & self centered.

You said earlier "Sorry to hijack the thread", then went on to turn what was a good thread geared towards like minded people meeting up, putting names to faces etc into a thread about you, your dog & ratting out people to wardens (in fact seeming to boast about it).

Well done, screw the walk I couldn't be bothered now.

BUT he hasn't at any stage told me I am wrong to say that he walks them off lead when he shouldn't so until he does I'll stand by what I have said!:D

    That's very convenient for you.

Mairt you should still have the walk. Have it on Portmarnarck beach. St Annes would be full of people frowning at midday unless you go to the designated area which is tiny.

Sorry, it wasn't my intention to ruin the thread and I apologise.

That said, I don't appreciate being called unfriendly and self centred and I would like to state that I got no satisfaction from having to involve the dog warden in an issue I had with an irresponsible dog owner but it was something I felt strongly about.

Anyway hopefully your thread can go back on track now and if you are so inclined to call me self-centred and unfriendly through reading my posts, I'd be inclined to call your last statement childish and over the top.

Such a pot calling the kettle black statement. You have done the exact same thing you are accusing me of but you appear to be taking the moral high ground.

    Wow, I give up!

Call my post what you like, your opinion mean's nothing to me.

I'm not making any presumptions and standing by them as truth and I certainly amn't taking the moral high ground.

Mairt I hope you'll reconsider the walk. I just think it's awful the way threads start out so well with someone suggesting a bunch of us meeting up and having a nice walk together and getting out and about with the dogs (which would be so lovely) and then a big row starts...I've seen it happen so often with threads. I just think it's awful and I can't understand it tbh. :(

Ah, I was only throwing a little wobbler ;)

At the moment my tolerance levels are pretty low, I'm trying to train through an injury and feel like I'm coming down with a cold (sore throat, headache & tiredness).

Of course it would be great to put faces to user/dogs names, but tbh I'm against St.Annes park. I've never been comfortable walking my dogs there, and you can see what I'm getting at when I talk about the attitudes I've encountered there - some of 'em use boards ;)

Mairt I genuinely laughed out loud at that last comment !!!
I'd be happy with Portmarnock. I used to walk there loads and its a good long walk so that would be great. Hopefully the tide will be out and we'll get a good run out of the dogs.

Mairt, keep me informed of the day, would love to see your dogs.

What about using a muzzle on your dog laurynsmam??
Your dog will never get better with dogs if he doesn't ever meet any.
Have you ever tried one ?? I don't like them but if it gives you peace of mind.....

Right, looks like Sunday the 28th.

    Venue?.

Is there anywhere on the southside or central (Phoenix Park) to be fair for anyone on the southside?.

My preference would be Portmarnock beach so I can paddle my tired legs after the previous days Judo :o But as I only live 5 minutes from it I feel I'm being unfair to everyone else.

St.Annes park is lovely too, just some awful attitudes in my experience (D4north wannabe's ;) ).

  • Registered Users Posts: 239 ✭✭MissyN

I'd prefer Portmarnock beach but the Pheonix Park would be fine too...at the Papal Cross...although the deer might have something to say about it if they are around ...

I'm not sure if I'm the only one from the south side but I don't mind going north and maybe you's could come south sometime.

A few of us have more than one and you could walk them, one of mine is like that and she only ever walks with me. So I know how you feel but it dosen't mean you can't come along for a chat either with out your dog.

If you like a game of footie mine will play with you all day and the other is not aloud of lead or he wanders of and spots something small to eat.So come along and have a chat anyway.

I was going to say, re. dogs which aren't cool with other dogs.

My older lad, Jericho (we call him 'Richo) is cool with this and although he's on the restricted list he's exceptionally placid and cool with snappy dogs. Your dogs will be fine with him, and he won't retaliate.

I wont be able to make that weekend, im away down the country.
But im only 5 mins walk from Portmarnock beach for any future meet ups.

Just out of curiousity Mairt, will you be letting your "restricted" dogs off their leads?
My two are on the list aswell, but like yours, they get on fine with all other dogs and run behind me as soon as another dog snaps...
