Tips for small used car?

I'm looking to buy a used car. I drive my a 00 Opel Corsa 1.0 hand-me-down at the moment and I've managed to get together about €7,000.

I reckon I could get 1,200 trade-in with the Corsa so my budget would be around €9k.

Because I'm only 19, I think I should stick to a similar sized car to keep my premium around the same, so I guess I'm looking for a 1.0 - 1.2 litre car, maybe 05/06.

Has anyone got any suggestions? I've read online that 3-door Corollas are a good car, and the new Polos (from 04-) are a good drive.

(Also, on a side note, could anyone guess how much my premium would go up changing from a 1.0 litre to a 1.2? I've had my full license for 18 months, and never had a crash.)

Just do a few online quotes and you'll get an idea.

If i were you i'd be looking at a fiesta/yaris/panda. All good small cars with small engines and reliable within your budget

Wel firstly the Corollas are 1.4 engine size!!...and would seem to be out of ur budget...You could always stick with the Corsa and get the newer shape ~year 2004...engine size of 1.2!...The polo and yaris are really your only other options...had been lookin around for a small enough car for myself for the past few months!!..its hard to find a nice decent one..so ended up with a 1.5!..good luck with the searching!!...try quoteme.ie and bestquote.ie for insurance quotes!:D

Thanks for that post, bazz26. I hadn't thought of half of those cars. I'd definitely consider the Clio and Aygo .

i can tell you now, the only good new mini city car seems to be the hyundia's... the little i30 sport.... could get one for 2 years on a few k lease then get rid of it and upgrade... nice little motors very relyable , not a corsa also so yeah... Great motors imho, 10/10
