Lucky you I'm out in the middle of nowhere in Limerick and BBnet is "the only show in town" They should think about speeding up their packages as well because €40 for only 1Mb is a bit expensive compared to other wireless isps around the country, but at least they are consistent

hm, why does most internet in this country just plain suck? I mean, they even still have data allowances :-(

    modem.jpg

supposed to be on BT 7MB... all tech stuff looks fine and I am very close to my exchange... but see for yourself

    561002681.png

the technician even told me on the phone that all reads well and I should see speeds between 650 & 750 kB without any probs for downloads... ideas?

    Passage West, Co. Cork

I think GSM/Gprs would not be very good,Get a 7 day trial and see for yourself!

another call with BT tech support...
apparently they are working on the Glenbrook exchange to which I am connected to... about 900 meters from my place.

:( BT 7Mbit line... Passage West, Co. Cork

let's hope they fix that issue fast... because as it is right now, my line does not even support a mid-quality video stream of 450 kbps

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON"T DO IT!!!!! I know someone that got a vodafone broadband modem and they have no 3G coverage in their area. GPRS is the exact some speed as dial-up sometimes even slower. Try three or o2, however mobile broadband should be a very last resort unless you use the internet very very rarely as speeds and the quality of the service are very unreliable.
What part of the country are you in there might be some fixed wireless providers available in your area.

I'm an avid PS3 gamer with addiction to COD4 (still) but these pings make
it nigh on impossible to play without losing muchos folicles through kinetic means if you catch my drift. I'm gonna ring them and see if me interleaving is set to high...

Don't bother. Through bitter experience with various mobile/Ice/Perlico options I can say that the only way for reliable, acceptable speed broadband in Ireland is through Eircom/BT landline. Chorus/NTL where available can give you great speeds but is 50/50 for reliability going on people I know who have it. I've settled for the 3Mb service with BT. Albums downloaded in about 8mins is quick enough for me, regular 2.6MB in speed tests no matter the time.

that is a speedtest mini thing that wont give you a very accurate result.

go to http://www.speedtest.net/?s=748 which is the galway server. quite reliable.

also, what package are you on and with what ISP?
