Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Poor RTE reception with sky box connected

I have a non subscription sky box and VCR connected to my TV. The picture on the Sky channels is perfect but the reception on the RTE channels via terrestrial ariel is poor. When I connect the ariel directly to the TV its perfect. I've tried changing the RF output but despite going through all the channels no improvement.

the rte signal going into your sky box must be border line ,[less than 60db ] amp up your rte signal with a 12db amp and should be ok

Not necessarily, the RTE level may well be too strong and its overloading the sky box so an attenuator may be necessary.

Have you tried changing the RF leads interconnecting the Sky Box/VCR? The premade thin ones can give problems from time to time due to their poor construction.

Is it a DIY job to find out which it is or must I get a repair man out.

DIY I would say, try Bytes suggestion first.

No haven't tried that. Is it possible to get good quality premade ones or would I need to make them from good quality cable.

It shouldn't make that much of a difference. If you can swap it for another and the result is the same, then Tony's attenuator option looks like the next step. If anything, the Sky box would probably give a slight boost to aerial signals.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. A change of cables didn't help so dont know if this is a stupid question but how do I know if I need to boost the signal or if its already too strong.

Since pictures are already perfect when put directly into TV, then I'd say they're already too strong perhaps for the Skybox. So, as Tony suggest, get yourself a variable attenuator, which would be cheap enough.
