Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm hopeing to travel to Central Asia sometime within the next year or two, probably with 2 or 3 others, possibly for 2 months. I'd love to visit countries like Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and the like. I think the Karakoram highway is in this general area and is supposed to be amazing. Has anybody ever been to these places?? I hear they are very beautiful with welcoming people?? How much time would i need to get around to see the main attractions ?? I'd appreciate any advice on anything, visa, flights, travel, accom etc :)

I met an Austrian guy in Syria on a trip a few months ago who had cycled all the way from home through all of the Stans, apparantly they are quite popular with cyclists- he met a Irish couple cycling that way to the Beijing Olympics from Dublin. Anyway he raved on about Kygristan but said the others were quite similar in a way. Most are Muslim or Communist or both so dont expect much nightlife=)
He also said language there can be a big problem, he even had one of those little 'Show and Point' books with him so he could point to pictures of food he wanted, pictures of hotels, etc.
I also met a Kiwi guy 2 weeks ago in Nepal and he recommended Kygristan too ( but it was the only Stan he had been to ) said the mountains there are spectactular. He met up with one of the Silk Road tours that lgo right across Central Asia and left him in Kathmandu- although not cheap he felt it was worth paying for because of the language difficulties. They also camped out next to their truck quite a bit which he said was cool.
Ive heard many good reports about Pakistan too over the years and am half thinking of backpacking and treking it next year.
