Holy moley (pun intended), thats one hell of a season opener. It had everything I love about Supernatural - lots of laughs, great special effects, and excellent acting (lots of great standout scenes).

On top of all that, a great new character in Casstiel, and a brilliant new story arc with lots of questions to be answered.
The 2 reunion scenes were well acted, the demon conversation in the diner was great, and the standout scene at the end with Casstiel left me wanting more!

    And AC/DC.

    A winning combination. :)

Haven't seen an episode since the season 2 opener.. should really catch up! :D

    Really great opening.
loved how Bobby kept trying to kill Dean when he came back, and then throwing the Holy water in his face. The ipod scene was also great,as was Dean picking up the porn mag right after digging out of his own grave.

Most of all,the best parts were Sam's new found control over whatever powers he has, with help from a new ruby.

and of course the new character who brought Dean back from hell. An 'angel' of God. God has work for Dean! Now of course we wonder if this really is an angel from God or someone playing Dean for their own purposes but I think its about time they introduced the God angle since we have the demon and hell angle.

Somehow I see it ending as a Dean vs Sam battle,Dean is apparently being led by an angel of God while at the moment Sam is being trained by a demon.

    That would be badass!
Castiel = woah! really great character.
I miss the old Ruby though :( still nice that they have the character around thougH. Nice to see Sam's powers storyline back too, they were kind of a wasted plot point last season

I LOVE THIS SHOW! im literally giddy after just watching it

Yep, great season opener - loved it. This show just really took off with Season 3 (though 2 was building up nicely) and I'm just happy it got renewed for another season. Watched the 8th season opener of Smallville before this - what a snoozer! Supernatural really blows it out of the water...

    Though:
not sure I like the new Ruby...

This episode exceeded all expectations. I could not have asked for better - pure awesomeness.

    Also, I have to note
not sure on the new Ruby either.

All I can say is...more. Great season premiere. I knew that particular aspect revealed at the end had to kick in at some point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,888 ✭✭✭Rsaeire

Absolutely brilliant season opener; couldn't have asked for more! I think the direction the show is going in is exactly the right way it should be going.
It's about time Sam stated using his powers too instead of wasting them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,554 ✭✭✭herobear

After thinking about it some more, i can kinda understand why they did what they did to
    Ruby
    .
they wanted to keep Ruby's re-appearance as a surprise to both the viewers and Dean, im thinking it'll play a significant part this season.
I'll still miss Katie Cassidy though, great actress!
nice to see im not the only one who liked her, lets hope the show can work with the new actress(things arent looking good so far :( )

edit: oh and also, did anyone else get an intense buffy deja vu with the opening scene?
the hands coming outta the dirt :D

So another strong episode with a prominent role for Bobby once again - I just love the episodes he's in, he has some terrific lines and is an all round great character (
Dean's reaction to the "panic" room: "Bobby, you're awesome". :)
). Not as strong an episode as the season premiere, but pretty good and interesting to see
    Meg and Agent Henricksen
back and the boys facing their inner demons as well. Season 4 is off to a great start...

I agree. Good episode. I think Bobby is an awesome character and it's always good to see him playing a prominent role throughout the episodes. The characters of Bobby, Dean and Sam all compliment each other very well.

I was also happy to see the return of
    Castiel
in this week's episode as was concerned they might have done some filler episodes before continuing the story from where episode one finished.

    So far, so good.

Am I the only one who felt slightly underwhelmed by this season's premiere?

I thought the whole god thing was a bit meh, unless they aren't actually god but something/someone using the Winchester boys for their own purpose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,888 ✭✭✭Rsaeire

I thought the 2nd episode started off part filler but then got much better once you realised where the story was going. I also think
    Castiel's
character is brilliant and very well cast. They add that gravitas to the role that is definitely needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

I thought the whole god thing was a bit meh, unless they aren't actually god but something/someone using the Winchester boys for their own purpose.

I definitely think there's something deeper going on and things are not quite as they appear - the writers seem to be even dropping hints in this episode, with Dean's doubts and concerns. This show doesn't do just plain old good/evil struggles anyway and has more layers then that - this very episode was very much about shades of grey anyway,
with the various hunters been tormented by those they could (or opted to) not save/got killed.

BTW, what's the spoiler tag "etiquette" going to be in this thread? I'm using them because others before me have also used them, but the thread title is clearly spoiler tagged, so do we need to keep using them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,553 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

I agree, J-blk... anything that has happened in past episodes is fair game. Anything you know or have read about future episodes (on spoilerfix for example) should be spoilered at all costs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Second ep not as good as the first, but still very good and interesting episode. Its an all out biblical war for the planet! Can't get much bigger than that! Angels vs Demons,God v The Devil. Castiel was saying he lost 6 brothers that week in battles. Lilith is trying to let loose the devil and clearly Dean must be important in stopping this. Sam on the other hand,I still am not sure where they are going with him.

Also agree Bobby is a great character to have, but Im always afraid they will kill him off, there were at least 3 times in that episode i thought he might die.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,553 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    "I'm going to hell.... again."

Supernatural is 3 for 3 this season... what a terrifc episode. Very clever way of filling in some backstory, some nice twists, and a great "To Be Continued..." at the end. Brilliant work by Mitch Pileggi too.

    Top stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

Amazing episode - that "Mom is a babe. I'm going to hell... again" line just cracked me up too. Great way to give us the backstory on the Winchesters though and tie everything from Seasons 1 and 2 into this one. Other great bits: Mitch Pileggi, Samuel and Deanna :), Dean suggesting to John that the Impala is the car for him, Dean asking if they had found anything on the web... of information :D.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,554 ✭✭✭herobear

    Wow!

this show continues to amaze me! absolutely flawless episode.
seeing Mary as a hunter, Mary's parents, finally finding out why the YED came back that night and what he did to Sam :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭SirLemonhead

Last episode was great alright. It's nice to see it still going strong :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,584 ✭✭✭TouchingVirus

"I'm going to hell...again" ...Well I guess I'll see Dean down there because I think Mary was absolutely gorgeous.

I'm also going to agree with everything said about this season (the whole Dean vs Sam angle is really good), the Castiel character is brilliant [and very well acted too!] I'm not enjoying "new" Ruby, bring back Katie Cassidy, she was easier on the eye and looked more of a badass than a lost puppy the current Ruby has going on...

It's already my fav show on Thursdays and if they keep this up I'll have to rearrange my top shows list :P

Ye this is the only tv show so far this season that every episode has been top notch. Mitch Pileggi was great, the history of the Winchesters was also great. Hopefully it will continue because so far it has been the best tv show this season,IMO... :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

4th episode, "Metamorphosis" was probably the weakest of the season so far, but still a solid entry. I love how they took the story of the guy that was turning into a monster and his struggle against his instincts as a parallel to what is happening to Sam. And it was Sam who had to take him down in the end, even though he was the one that believed the guy could fight his nature... Great season so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

yep weakest of the season so far but that in no way means it was actually a weak episode. it was in fact a very solid episode. i like the dark tone this season is taking. it has been brilliant so far.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,554 ✭✭✭herobear

    needs more Castiel :P

    I liked it a lot :\

Nice to have a straightish monster episode again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,553 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

This weeks episode was different. Shot in black and white, with some classic horror movie traits (great work with shadows, camera tricks, dramatic music, lots of dry ice) along with some great humour (Dean re-hymenated, Dracula on a Vespa, plywood prop doors).

    Good fun!

Next week gets all serious again with the return of
Lilith (although its probably an hallucination)
    . (Promo)

Guys where are you all watching season 4?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

great episode.it has been so dark that this kind of episode was needed and when they do this kind of episode, they do it really well. Brilliantly shot and very funny as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

5 for 5! I just can't believe how good this season has been - indeed, nothing to do with the major story line, but so well done, loved the black & white look, the humor throughout, the old movie quotes, great stuff. This show does such standalone quirky episodes so well ("Tall Tales" comes to mind right off the bat) - once again, looking forward to next week :).

Another great episode. Every single episode this season has been great, you can't say that for any other show so far this season IMO. Any other shows I am watching have had at least one average or bad episode, some more than that. But Supernatural has been brilliant.

I love how they balance humour and serious plot lines. They looked at how Dean was terrified of going back to hell, and we saw his fears for Sam,and what Sam might become. But at the same time we had some hilarious moments that made me laugh out loud several times. Dean screaming like a woman at the cat had me laughing for a few minutes straight.

Couldn't agree more, another fantastic episode. Dean screaming like a girl had me laughing out loud too, but there were so many other humorous moments during the episode right from the start (the dog chasing him, "big heart", "game cocks" :D).

And yep, the balance with the serious part about what Sam may become was done so well.

Great to see Bobby once again (and speaking Japanese!) and I appreciate that they even threw in a quick explanation about how they dragged a ghost with the car.

And the icing on the cake was that final clip of Jensen Ackles lip-synching "Eye of the Tiger". Great stuff :).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Ye that outtake clip at the end was very funny. Had that song stuck in my head all day!

It very rare a tv show is actually really funny but the humour is great in this. This has to be one of my favourite shows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Brilliant again last night. Every week I watch I actually fear this will be the week we get a dodgy episode but it just hasn't happened yet.

We get a nasty razor blade chewing scene, which is always nice to watch. Then right into another seal about to be broken. The angels are really interesting,we see Bunny Colvin from The Wire as an angel who clearly doesn't think much of humans and is happy to take out an entire town and kill a lot of people. And we have Castiel who is actually doubting what is right or wrong instead of jsut taking orders. Their orders were in fact to do what Dean told them to do. Which is very interesting.

Sam used his powers again, and the angels do not seem to like that at all,Castiel just about shook his hand and Bunny threatened to turn him to dust. We also got a few more hints that Dean does remember what it was like in hell,so I would imagine we will get an episode just about that.

    Great epsiode again.

I could feel the pain when the razor was lodged in the guy's mouth. :(

    Excellent episode. Supernatural never disappoints.

the only show I could watch at anytime. others I have to be in the mood for.
Loved the tyler and perry references in the second last ep.
sang eye of the tiger a few times in work today:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,553 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

I think Uriel is the kind of guy who has a wallet with "Bad Mutha F**ka" written on it. Another cracking episode.

    "Astronaut!!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

Yep, another brilliant episode - excellent stuff throughout. The razor blade scene was freaky... Great to see Dean back to his confident self - and being a jerk to the kid (he had plenty of candy in the car:)). And they nicely advanced the main story line again too with Castiel's appearance and Sam using his powers with Dean looking on. This show has certainly become must-watch TV...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

Yet another great episode this week, "Wishful Thinking" - probably the most standalone episode so far (though it did address Dean hiding the fact that he remembers what happened to him to Sam) but had so many great bits. The teddy bear blowing its' brains out had me in stitches, but it was funny throughout (Dean wishing for a sub - and the aftermath!, the depressed teddy, Dean looking for the proper ID in his pocket...). 8 for 8 so far this season and counting :).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,553 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Yep fantastic episode. The puff of foam from the teddy suicide was genius. You forgot the best line in the show, though..... "Kneel before Todd" :)

I even liked the title of tonight's episode, "I Know What You Did Last Summer" :) and it was cool how it all fit in with Sam telling Dean about all he got up to during Dean's stint in hell (too much information in fact!).

Cool episode, though I didn't see the "to be continued" line coming at all (that's how well this show pulls you in, 45 minutes fly by) - really looking forward to next week. New high level demon was scary and the fight was great... which resulted in one of the best lines of the episode too: "I'm wearing a pediatrician" :D.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Ye last weeks episode was good,a teddy bear coming alive and blowings its head off with a shotgun :D

But this weeks episode was even better. I have yet to find an episode this season to be even average. They have all been great. We got some good flashbacks on what happened with Sam while Dean was in hell. We also got another very powerful demon who now has the knife.

And what about these angels? not exactly what you might think an angel would be! :p They want to kill Anna because she can hear what they say. A lot of things are coming down to whether or not it is right to sacrifice one person to save many.

Really great season, best thing currently airing on tv at the moment. Lets hope it continues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,094 ✭✭✭Sarn

Yep, another good episode. The angels are very old testament, doing God's dirty work. They remind me of the quote out of The Prophecy "Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Another very good episode. And thats the last one until January 15th :(

I probably should have, but I didn't see it coming that Anna was an angel. A fallen angel at that. I really like how they are going into all the stuff about the angels. Only 4 have seen God,they too rely on faith, only they get killed if they don't have faith! They don't have human feelings, which is why Anna decided to fall, and perhaps why Castiel is having doubts.

The angels vs Demons stand off was good as well, but in ways good have been a bit more explosive, perhaps they will leave that for the end of the season. Uriel is an ass,but he is one mean son of a bitch! :p Robert Wisdom is a great actor.

And probably the best scene was at the end with Dean explaining how he had been tortured, his body was ripped apart until there was nothing left, only to magically appear again so they could rip it apart all over again, for 30 years. Until he took a deal to torture other souls. Very good acting at the end.

brilliant first half to this season, best show currently on US tv. Lets hope it continues for the second half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

Absolutely fantastic from start to finish - and I love how the whole confrontation between the angels and demons was all setup by Sam, Dean & Ruby. Dean's confession to Sam right at the end was very well done too, as was his sadness over Anna - very solid acting from Jensen Ackles. Loved it and I'm really gonna miss it over the Christmas break - the 15th of January seems so far away... :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,553 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Agreed, guys. I'm playing catchup at the moment after a business trip, and I had the treat of watching these 2 back to back. The climax in the barn was a tiny bit disappointing after such a buildup, but I think the showdown we all hope is coming between angels, demons, Winchesters and Lillith will be epic.....

I'm still expecting a sting in the tail with Castiel though... there is more to him than meets the eye.
