Many of you will know Alex as a veteran of the cash games in the Merrion and Fitz over the years. Sadly he passed away last night. He was a gentleman and will be very sadly missed.

Always enjoyed playing with Alex. Great to see someone enjoy the game as much as he did. Table 1 in the Fitz won't be the same. RIP.

Please lets leave arguments and provocations out of this thread.

I had a lot of time for Alex. He used to call me Donal, and I corrected him a couple of times but then I gave up trying as it always brought a smile to my face even a few years later.

RIP Alex, a true gent on the poker scene and will be sadly missed.

    Hi I'm Alex's son Ken

Many's the time at a family dinner in Dads house or my sisters (Fiona's) house, Dad would suddenly remember there was a game starting shortly and say : really enjoyed the dinner but I'm running late for a game - have to go !

He often mentioned the characters at the various clubs and was delighted when one of lads from the cards clubs arrived in to Beaumont hospital with a fantastic fruit hamper.

From his children Fiona, Justin and Ken, Thanks for all your kind words.

Alex was as near to a poker legend that you are likely to find on the Dublin scene. He was all that was good in poker and will be impossible to replace. A real social gent that loved to play - a model for us all

As everyone has said a very friendly Gent.

I never played cards with him but was at his brother Bill's 80 birthday party last year and he told some great stories of his card playing buddies.

    He loved all you people.

I'd said there's a Full House in Heaven tonight.

May you rest in peace AL.

Alex was such a pleasure to play, god rest him.

    Just as an aside.
1st time I sat into a cash game I got involved in a hand with Alex.
I three betted AQ pre-flop & was called by Alex and one other.
AQx rainbow flop which I love & re-raise Alex's bet, he calls & randomer folds.
Turn comes a King, Alex only has €48 left so I lob in €50.
    Alex instantly calls.
Wondering if I might be in trouble I was astonished to see
a veritable hailstorm of chips being lobbed into the pot
from at least six other regulars competing to top Alex up to the required €50.

    Such was the man. :)

    RIP sir.

My condolences and best wishes to Alex's family and friends.

In the years I dealt to/played with Alex, I always had to stop myself from laughing at some poor newcomer calling one of his re-raises, lambs to the slaughter :)

A more helpful, pleasant gentleman - with a wicked sense of humour - would be hard to find. RIP.
