Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

South Africa neighbouring countries to visit

We have 6 weeks in South Africa as the start of our RTW backpacking in October. We're starting off in around Cape Town where we want to treat it like a sun holiday (7-10 days) due to a very busy, stressful preceeding year. Flying out of Joburg after the six weeks so we'll be in Kruger for the last 5 or 6 days of our trip.

So what to do in between? We've been told about the garden route and thats fine, but feel we're doing it just because its the thing to do.We like to get off the beaten track and don't like getting too much tourist stuff crammed down our neck within reason. So would we benefit from going to some neighbouring countries like Namibia,Botswana, or Mozambique over land that would be worth not missing?Or will we be blown away by the SA coast line?

    Would love some feedback.

To be honest theres a huge amount of stuff to do in SA for 6 weeks, the diversity of the landscapes is amazing. I'd recommend the Garden Route definitely, a trip to the eastern cape to see some of the best beaches in the country, and some of the best party areas too. I'd also recommend iSimangoliso Greater Wetland park(Some of the best snorkelling in SA, nice beaches, a HUGE wildlife park with the big 4, and good kayaking with Hippos and crocs), also its pretty close to Hluhluwe-Imfolozi which is regarded by South Africans as even better than Kruger. If your up that way a trip to Swaziland is well worth it, and from the Maputo in Moz is only about 70km's away and alot of travel-agents run excursions from Swaziland. You'd need to fly to Namibia since its so huge, same with botswana.
