    My daughter wants a skateboard.

I want to get my daughter a skateboard because it'll get her out of the house doing something involving fresh air and, as pass times go, it beats the hell out of OAP-bothering or bebo.

I have no clue whatsoever what price to pay for a basic beginner board and was wondering if anyone had any advice for me on how much I could expect to pay to get her going, what she'd need, and where I might go to get such equipment.

Apols if there's a sticky on this already.

Go to a specialist skate store NOT a toy shop ,Skate city or G1 in dublin town or Wreckless in Gorey or The Boardroom in Greystones. You'll be looking to pay around €100 I'd say.

Can't agree more. The toy ones are lethal. Stay away!

If she gets into it, it will probably be one of the best things for her in life! It will open her up to alot more things like art, photography, exercise, General thinking, Other kinda same sports like snowboarding & surfing.. Im not saying she doesn't like this stuff already but.. If I had not have started skating 7 years ago I dont think I would be the person I am today which I feel is a good thing.

How old is she & yes go with a good setup.

Main point for her is to have FUN. If its not fun its just not worth it.

btw I actually know a girl who just talked to me today said she had a full setup she didnt want anymore going for €50. Thats good for a full setup and its all good hardware! Let me know if your interested I can get pictures or something.

Here's hoping she doesn't break it before chrimbo. And remember its very easy to break a board, and its a milestone breaking your first board so don't give her grief ;)

I didn't know that kenjd. Thanks for the tip!

Seeing as you brought it up, does anyone else have any bits of advice like that (ie useful but so obvious you'd only need to mention it to the noob-iest of noobs, which, conveniently, I am)?

No worries. yeah if you land a trick wrong it can snap very easily. most parks call for helmets but knee pads and wrist guards are essential, well at my age anyway!! don't buy the safety pads you see in argos or tesco! better off going to a skate shop.
