Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Paperwork, paperwork and more paperwork...

    ...or so it seems anyway.

I'm trying to get my first bike on the road as I have my learner permit and insurance ready to go. However the bike was out of action for two or three years as my Dad owned it and never used it. Seeing as it wasn't in use he didn't tax it.

He can't get hold of the Registration Book to transfer the ownership over to me and also for to get the thing taxed!

He doesn't seem to have the Vehicle Licensing Cert to hand either and so we have filled out the form RF 134 to have the Registration Book replaced. I'm wondering now should I tick to have a new Licensing Cert sent out too...

Anyway once I have the proper documents what do I then do to get it taxed? Must I first register that I am the new owner and wait on another form to be sent to me to confirm this before I can get tax...

It just seems like I'm sucked under reams of paperwork!

Send off for a replacement reg cert for your father, when you get it. Print out from RF100A from here with your fathers details. Fill in the off the road section and get it stamped by the Gardai. Bring this from, vehicle reg cert and your insurance cert to a tax office and hand over your money. Then get it signed over to you.

Or else you can wait for them to send out the paper work to your father, get him to sign it over to you. Wait for them to send you the paper work and you'd still need to use RF100A to get it taxed. But have waited several months longer.

As said, just get your father to get a replacement book in his name - there's only one 'book' now, not two like their used to be, so VLC and Logbook are the same thing now.

When he gets it, just do a 'transfer of ownership' on it, and send it in. The whole process won't take months, a couple of days at the moment for a VLC, and a transfer about 10 days. They're not exactly busy at the mo........

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

    Nice one for that lads!

I went in to the motor tax office here in Cork today and they were pretty helpful really. Gave me two forms to fill in, one to apply for the first motor tax disc on a used bike and one was a change of ownership form (though it says only for vehicels registered before 1993 but the clerk gave it to me herself so I assume there's no bother there).

She said to get my Dad to sign the change of ownership form and for me to fill in the other form and then I could get my tax right away. She didn't mention an insurance cert but I bought insurance from Quinn last night online and have the print-out of confirmation of start and end date and all of the other nescessary details...if I have to bring insurance stuff along for the tax do people reckon that's be enough???
