What is the story on parking at CIT , it seems to be gone ridiculous lately out into housing estates all over Bishopstown?

no idea, i never tried it.

nowhere left in cork to throw a car anymore. or mallow
any space that can hold a car has an owner, a parking fee and some little scumbag waiting to put a clamp on your car

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,663 ✭✭✭evil-monkey

Parking in CIT's not too bad in the morning. And to be fair, we've a lot more than most colleges!! UCC doesn't have any free parking, at all!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,818 ✭✭✭Gauge

Exactly! If you're in before 9am mond-thurs and pretty much all day Friday you won't have a problem with parking. Up until 12.30pm or so you may have to sit and wait for people leaving.

CIT what can i say other than if you let a bunch of muppets run it this is what you get

the parking is a complete mess. you have to be there before 8.30 if you want a space and they really should have made a 2-3 storey car park there. even if they charged 1euro for a day they would make alot of money each week but there you go. i often left my mates park at mine and walk to college ( a 20min walk) as it was ridiculous and still is.

My advice befriend a person with a driveway near cit or risk getting a ticket

they should have built the world's highest multi storey car park instead of that feckign student centre. charge unstudents to park in the spare spaces there and it would have paid off in a week

i dunno lads, there are a lot of things wrong with CIT, but the parking?? i mean, i'll be the first to say that there are two types of staff in CIT; lecturers and morons. but the parking situation is far better than most other colleges - far better!!

although i do admit that a small charge would help alleviate the situation, i mean i know guys who drive from Parchment!! but to implement an effective system of this sort would be well beyond the administrative skills of the CIT bigwigs...

Absolute shambles, I dont start before 11am and there is just no point going near the CIT at that time. I come from either Midleton or Ovens so I'm snookered anyway. It pisses me off the people who could walk but are too lazy too.

all those scummy little urbanites in their student accommodation should not be allowed to have cars. government ban on car ownership for these shaggers would be nice. you know to make room in the car park for culchies like myself.

Well I don't mind, forces me to get up and be in for 9 and keeps me in till at least 3 as I won't get anything before that either if I leave.

Dont know if anyone was reading this months ExpliCIT but it was saying that there bringing in €2 parking in d carpark by astroturf. Apparently there implementing the same system that the WIT have with WITCards basically topping up your student card and been able to pay for things in the canteen/shop etc. and you also use this to deduct the €2 for parking at the "barrier" when this will come on stream I have no idea!

ya this was discussed at the CITSU meeting today. the funds will then be used to launch a free Park & Ride system.

There are also people that drive in and park that clearly are within walking distance. Tough for others coming long ways in the morning not to get a parking space.

PArk in the estate next to cit. Its like a 2min walk and theres always space close all day. It prob takes longer to walk from the far CIT car park.

I done this at times too when class was about to start - didn't fancy leaving my car there though. Then again I came back to my car one day in CIT car parks with a huge dent in the wing. Fair play to the security guys, they spent a great deal of effort looking over footage - unfort there was a big rain drop on the camera lense right where my car was

Exactly. Your car wont get any scratches in the estate. I would be more worried about it in the car park. Not as if somebody will rob it in broad daylight anyway

Well im only back at CIT 2 weeks and I've been parking in both the carpark and the estates And i've already gotten a ding on my drivers door and the headlight washers of my car has been knocked off

Yeah its awful, I baught almost brand new car last august, not a single ding anywhere, within a month, bloody thing was full of them. I wouldn't mind but I made sure to park evenly to give people enough room to open their door but no, some people are just so dis resepectful.

Anyhow, I park in fas carpark, parrallel to the fensing so now one can hit from side with doors at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,055 ✭✭✭suppafly

Yeah I'm not in till 10am most days either so i never get a spot. i don't even bother checking is there a spot anymore. i just park in the estate beside fas. Its grand so far, it about the same distance and i get off really quick too and don't get stuck in the traffic coming out of the car park.

It seems to be even worse this year getting parking. You have to be here by 8.55 now or not a chance getting a space. Before I remember it was about 9.30 before the lower car parks filled.

They are talking about a park and ride system, plus introducing pay parking. More likely be about 10 years before that gets implemented.

i think its going to be coming in pretty soon. They've arleady build some of the stuff to put the barriers on. They were talking about it in the student general meeting there on tuesday. Said its going to be the car park beside the astro-turf pitch. Its going to be open for christmas

i think you misunderstood there buddy. the park and ride won't be next to the astro-turf pitch (obviously that would be retarded), the park and ride will be on the Carrigrohane Road. the car park next to the astro turf pitch will be a pay-for-park system that will fund the park and ride system.

I think he/she was refering to the barrier system rather than the park and ride. :)

Thats true .....but what I was saying was the clampers ...they dont seem to be around.....like people were parking all over the place .....fairly funny watching people trying to ram their cars up curbs( only when you have parking yourself :p) .....

On a serious note tho the clampers would clean up .....

Oh the clampers are around all right but they probably have limited clamps so they only clamp the people that are really taking the piss.
There are quite a few people parking on queer spots alright though.

I hear there are planning on turning the "front" of the college into a car park... you know despite the whole "we are getting rid of a 1000 spaces" thing or what ever they were saying last year.
By the "front" i mean where they are doing the work at the moment, putting down that pipe or whatever.

I don't think so really. The public construction notice says that they are building a Resource centre there. Maybe they're going to put some parking spaces too but i don't think it say anything about them

I dont even try to get a space at 10:30

The clampers seem to vary in their strictness. Sometimes they don't clamp any cars... other times I've come out and seen every wrongly-parked car clamped, even the ones way up on the grass verges! Certainly towards the end of final term this year they were clamping every car they saw.

They never seem to clamp cars blocking others, but given the amount of angry people/boy racers in CIT I've seen a LOT of people get the living hell keyed out of their car hoods when they happened to block in/piss off the wrong person (ie: usually by taking up two spaces to avoid the sides of their cars getting scratched *facepalm*)

What *REALLY* irritated me was the people in the car park by the astroturfs who would park on the slopes between different levels, simultaneously creating massive blind spots and reducing the width of the road to one vehicle. And they never got clamped!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,055 ✭✭✭suppafly

they seem to not clamp anyone from like 9-1. Any of the cars that r still left there after that seem to be clamped. That what i've noticed

Lets be fair CIT have doubled their parking in the last six years and have one of the best ratios in the country. it is unfair to see so many driving from parchment, edenhall etc..

It was discussed before that CIT cannot get any more spaces because the local council will not grant planning for extra spaces.

Yeah it is right annoying with the locals parking when they can walk easily. I think the pay parking might solve that problem.

3 euro per visit is a bit much though - that could be 6 euro per day or more if you have to leave for anything.

This will only suit lecturers on 100k who dont mind spending that for a space. Not many students coulod afford paying between 15-30 euros per week!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,917 ✭✭✭towel401

do they not have a bulk discount?

but if it was only 1 euro the guys living in apartments nearby will still drive up. maybe if the recession went on for another bit 1 euro will be too much for them
