To be honest half of them hate Boards and are goons.
Threads on Boards are absolutely terrible in comparison to the quality of SA threads.

And jesus the rows and flaming and mad **** you get on here. :S

Next week all the societies will have signup stands in all the campuses, we'll be in both Aungier ST and Kevin ST for two days (I'm not sure what two days those are yet since we've gotten conflicting information about it), and we'll take signups for both Netsoc and Gamesoc.

I'm not sure if they implemented the swipe card system yet but if they did, all you do is on the day pay 2 Euro and swipe a card. If not, you pay 2 Euro and fill in a little sheet with Name, email, student number, etc.

It's pretty hard to track down most societes to join them afterwards, so it's best to do it at the start of the year. Some are easy to find (Gamesoc guys will meet you anywhere to sign you up usually if you get in touch), but some are quite hard (Netsoc).

Netsoc, by the by, is worth the 2 Euro alone for the ability to access your U: drive from home.

EDIT: You also should have gotten an email about Gamesoc in your student email (Events, etc), if not, here is the Wall Of China of text if you're bored.

    Hey Computer Science/Computing Students!

Next week is Clubs & Socs week, which for the uninitiated, is one of
your only chances to catch all of DITs societies in one place and sign
    up.
This year, along with the societies, Microsoft will be in attendance
to promote Dreamspark, which is a new programme to give free
development and creative Microsoft tools and software to students
across the globe, and all you have to do is spend a minute or so
signing up for Dreamspark on the website, and you can avail of the
free software and tools instantly. The free tools are:

    Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition.
    SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition.
    Microsoft Expression Studio.
    XNA Game Studio 2.0.
    Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition.
    Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition.

Along with this, you also get 1 year of free XNA Creators Club
membership, which will allow you to develop Xbox 360 projects and
titles with XNA Game Studio. This is worth 100$ and is a great thing
to get into, regardless of the year you're in (Yes, even first year).

To sign up for Dreamspark, you can visit this link. You will need to
use your @student.dit.ie email address to confirm you are a DIT
    student.

    https://downloads.channel8.msdn.com/Default.aspx

I will also be outside the Student Union shop in Kevin Street
throughout the week, promoting Dreamspark. You will also be able to
find out more information at the Gamesoc stands during Clubs & Socs
week at both Kevin ST and Aungier ST.

The Kevin ST & Aungier ST Gamesoc will be holding signups for two days
in both Aungier ST and Kevin ST during Clubs & Socs week, we will be
in attendance with a stand with promotional material, some gizmos and
games, and possibly some free stuff.

Here is a summary of what you can expect from the Gamesoc this year:

    -Casual
You can expect nights out, on campus gaming events, game launch
parties, gaming events in DITs new 100,000 Euro games development lab,
and exclusive Gamesoc offers throughout the year.
There will also be casual arcade gaming events.
A Rock Band event will be coming very shortly. Stay tuned for more.
A Diplomacy event will be coming very shortly, Stay tuned for more.
    (Diplomacy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diplomacy_(game) )

    -Competitive
We are founding, co-ordinating, and taking part in a new Intercollege
Gaming League called Irish Intercollege Gaming (IIG). This will span
every platform (But will focus on PC and Xbox gaming), and we are
competing against UCD, DCU, Trinity, Blanchardstown IT, and Tallaght
IT. We will be looking for gamers for all of the games in the league
(These have not been confirmed yet, but titles will probably include
current major competitive titles such as Counter Strike Source, Halo
3, etc, as soon as titles are announced there will be an email sent
    out.).
Along with this, we will be attending Midlans ( http://www.midlans.net
) and Gamecon ( http://www.gamecon.ie ) as usual, and will discount
the cost of travel/tickets to these events. (Note, these are Bring
    Your Own PC events).
There will also be on campus tournaments and competitions.

NOTE: Everyone is welcome to apply for IIG. We want to build a good
team, but you do not need to a professional wizard to apply, please
    don't be shy.

    -College/Academic
There are several Irish programming competitions which have a gaming
focus, and we will be sponsoring teams to enter these. We will also
offer mentoring to every team who enter Robocode. Here is a short
summary of some of the competitions.

    ++ Imagine Cup: http://www.microsoft.com/ireland/imaginecup/Default.mspx
++ A Microsoft programming competition. Worldwide scale. Winners in
Ireland get sent to Egypt to compete against colleges from around the
    globe. Many categories available.

++ Dare To Be Digital: http://www.daretobedigital.com/
++ Games development competition in Ireland. You don't need to be a
hypergenius or a really experienced programmer to enter so don't be
    shy.

    ++ XNA Challenge: http://www.xna.ie
++ A game development competition using XNA, basic idea is you have to
recreate a classic game with a new twist for the Xbox 360 (This would
be good use of your Dreamspark account ;) ), last year was Space
Invaders. Rumoured themes this year are Asteroids or Atari. Very fun.
Takes place simultaneously to Robocode at the same event in Tipperary.

    ++ Robocode: http://www.robocode.ie/
++ An Artificial Intelligence programming competition using Java. VERY
easy to pick up, designed purely for 1st years (Only first years can
enter). Great fun, you can program your robot in seconds or hours
depending on the complexity. Takes place in Tipperary simultaneous to
    XNA Challenge.

    ==UNCOMFIRMED==
    ++ Robocode 2: http://www.robocode.ie/
++ Identical to Robocode, but designed for 2nd Year students.

We are also looking for new committee members for Gamesoc for the
    following positions:

-First year Liasons (Kevin ST / Aungier ST) [Represents 1st years and
is our liason between 1st year and the Gamesoc]
-Media Officer [Responsible for designing posters, videos, and other
    promotional material for Gamesoc]
-Secretary [Takes minutes at meetings, keeps us all organised when we
    get out of hand.]
-Poster People [Sticks up posters! This is a small position but the
more people who want to help us with this the better!]
-Campus liason (Aungier ST) [An Aungier ST student responsible for day
to day running of Aungier ST section of Gamesoc.]
-Sponsorship Officer [Responsible for contacting new organisations to
see if they want to sponsor the society. Very important, be dedicated
    please.]
-Traditional Games Head [Responsible for organisation of RPGs, Board
Games, and traditional games of all kinds. Will be given budget and
    responsibility.]

Don't be shy, apply! Email ditgamesoc A.T gmail.com to apply with the
Subject as the position you are applying for. Please include:
    -Name
    -Course
    -Email
    -Phone
    -Student Number

And an explanation of why you are suitable for the position.

Remember, signing up at the start of the year at the Gamesoc stand
during Clubs & Socs week is the easiest way to join Gamesoc. We are
one of the best Kevin Street Societies (No, we didn't give ourselves
    that title) and fantastic fun.

We also have a website at:
    http://gamesockst.socs.dit.ie
    Register away and have fun!

Also keep an eye out for Microsoft!

I make a point of not reading boards unless I have a specific reason to do so.
    It's like Youtube comments sometimes.

That said if you have a question Boards is a great place to get an answer (or 100).

EDIT: I'm going to stop ****ting up your thread now :)
EDIT2: Mario I can't believe you linked the video with the ridiculous "Greastest" spelling error. XD
