Just over a month to go before the new Cynic album is released, all I've read on it suggests it is almost as remarkable an achievement as Focus was. Despite all the album release hype going elsewhere at the moment, no surprises there, this will be one of the more interesting releases of the year. I'm looking forward to see how much of the last 15 years in Portal and Aeon Spoke has been absorbed into the Cynic sound.

Looking forward to this one myself. I know it's been leaked, but it's certainly something that deserves to be bought. Loved the song Evolutionary Sleeper, so if the rest are close to that, it's going to be a seriously impressive album.

I'll take it you'll be heading to the Opeth/Cynic gig Doc?

    It is... glory...

EDIT: it's not as good as Focus. But it's good in it's own way. Aeon Spoke style melody is quite prevalent, not as many jazz/prog moments as I'd hoped. Still, going to see them in Nov. Let's hope Opeth doesn't play much off the newest album...

Heard a bit of it last night myself, definitely prefer Focus. Although not really fair to judge until I hear it all..

I loved the newest Opeth album. They're a band who's remained consistant, fresh and creative, so I'll be looking forward to hearing all their stuff. What I'm hoping is that there's no pile of assholes to ruin the gig like there was the last couple of times Opeth played. I can't imagine them being too respectful to Cynic either.

    You mean Paradise Lost?

I am very looking forward to this. I quite liked Evolutionary Sleeper, though it's not up to Focus standards, I thought it was a great song in its own right.
