Does anyone know if I cancel Sky through that kiosk what happens to the viewing card I got? Or would I have to cancel by ringing Sky? I just tried to get through to Sky and was holding for 20 mins so I just hung up. If I do cancel my original order can I just ring Sky up and order it off them?? I gave my credit card details on my contract so I don't know where thats gone now, they money for the box and installation hasn't come off my card yet  I thought NTL were bad

I was going to cancel an installation when the guys never turned up. I rang them and no **** they actually said that they forgot to come ! and if I had not called them they were not gonna come because the guy said to me he did not even have my details. That was crazy because he was the same guy who took all my details a week before and obviously ordered the viewing cards !

To cut a long story short I rang another company and they said that they cannot install unless I done a complete new install with them, viewing cards and all. They cant install your one because they said they wont be subsidised by sky if they took your card and installed.

I think I'll put pressure on that kiosk then cos I've paid sky €37.50 because I've no phone line. If I cancel it might get messy. I'll threaten to cancel and give them a couple of days to get it sorted

If he is, he'd better read the rules, as pimping is not allowed.
i'm taking the piss i wouldnt expect anyone to give there details to anyone over the net

all those stands in the shopping centers are indipentant companies
if you cancel destroy the cards
the only way to order through sky is to ring em on the 0818 no.

Before i think about ordering can someone tell me if there is much of a difference viewing SD broadcasts through the HD box.

I don't have sports or movies but if the HDMI output provides an improved picture i might give this a punt.

    Cheers.

not worth paying the extra 15 euro per month without having movies or sport

and its certainly not worth it just for the upscale

I went up to the kiosk and cancelled they weren't too pleased but that's what they get for bad service. They also said there was a backlog which I think was a lie. I'll ring sky later and order it off them. Who installs it if it's ordered directly off sky?

    1000th post!! Woot!!! :D

Sky usually use one of two companies here. They gave me there names on the phone last week but I cannot recall. Just ring them and they will give you the names.

Sierra Communications I think it the main one. Up here in the north of the country, they seem to use Finlays from NI.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,435 ✭✭✭✭redout

Yep, that was it. Finlays was the one of the name's they mentioned.

I finally got through to Sky. I explained what happened with the independent company and they refunded the €37.50 I paid them during the week for the manual activation of the viewing card. They then put me through to their Cork call centre who took my order and told me it'll be installed on Monday 13th Oct. I think she said by Sierra??

Just a quick question about the dish picking up a signal...
My apartment is top floor corner at the back of the development facing north, apartments that are behind me have dishes pointing south (east) I think. Does Sky only use one satellite or are these a few? I'm worried now incase they can't get a decent signal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,341 ✭✭✭✭Tony

Only one satellite position is used, all satellites are south of here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,072 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

Well after 2 years of waiting I finally got Sky HD installed yesterday and it certainly doesnt disapoint. The picture quality is fantastic. I know it is probably just me but watching something in HD appears to make my tv screen bigger :D

I put on that channel LUXE HD and the picture on it was just amazing. I have the box connected to my Onkyo HTX22HD surround sound system and the sound is amazing.

I was given a number to call that would expediate my installation if there was a cancellation but I think I will hold off until the install date in November to ensure I get a Pace box.

While it's likely that the Pace box will be more reliable, nobody is going to know for sure until a year or so down the line. It could well end up having iffy hardware too.

I don't have to think too far back to their rubbish Pace Skybox the 2500, which had a fondness of blowing tuners.

Mind you, I don't know much Thomson made that was ever any good! :D

I am just about to order a Sky HD Box and subscription but must say that I have been a little put off/dissapointed with the negative comments about the Thompson box.

Has anyone anything good to say about it??

I have had a few PACE boxes (NTL) over the years and thought all of them were crap! Is there going to be a Samsung one??

If anyone is happy with their Thompson box please post here also so that prospective HD'ers may have some good feedback!!

    Thanks.

Does the HD upscale a SD broadcast - has anybody noticed a difference between a SD picture on a HD box versus a Sky+ box through scart say?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,242 ✭✭✭god's toy

Would your TV not do that anywaay? If your running an SD pic on a HD tube it has too so it can fill the srceen.

Unless your asking if it does it better than a TV...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,933 ✭✭✭keith_d99

Actually you are right the TV will do it's upscaling - just wondering how if there is much of a difference between a SD pic through scart and a HD pic through HDMI?

Yes there is an improvment as HDMI is basically component video which is a small step up from RGB.
