I've noticed a couple of people on this thread saying they're "proud" of being right-wing or being all disgusted that they're left-wing according to that questionnaire thing.

Can't see what's so bad about being to the left - other than it's kinda "the thing" on After Hours to emphasise how "anti hippy" and "no-nonsense" you are. Being on the left doesn't make you a dumb hippy at all. You can be left-wing and have plenty of common sense, as well as having some conservative viewpoints...

All these tree-hugging, pc do-gooders annoy the very shíte out of me, they actually make my anus twitch with their sympathy for the dregs of society, murderers, rapists and drug addled scumbuckets that I find myself disagreeing with them an awful lot.

So much so, in fact, that I have formed the polar opposite view to these morons and find myself firmly planted on the right side of the fence.

I also hate the fact that right leaning people are labelled as "conservative", as if it's some kind of liberating experience to hug trees, touch AIDS riddles junkies or campaign so child pornographers are housed in plush open prisons.

I also resent the fact that right leaning people are tarred as racists or bigots just because they want to see leeching parasites sent back from whence they came.

And anyone who says otherwise can take a running jump into the gene cleansing machine I have in my garden shed.

I don't think that makes you right-wing at all Des, I think it makes you an occupant of the middle ground. Also, "conservative" is regularly viewed as a dirty word (ditto "liberal") whereas it's not necessarily a bad thing in a lot of contexts. But I can totally see what you mean when you say just because e.g. you have zero tolerance for scumbag thugs it makes you conservative. Bollocks to that - it makes you sensible and realistic.

Many people also think that you must be a conservative if you think the family unit is something to be proud of and held onto as a model for society, but it's something I firmly believe in. I also believe in law and order. Yet I am very liberal in many ways and as my political compass shows I'm in the centre of left and liberal.

If pushed I would label myself as a 'liberal with attitude' :pac:

Pity about the whole test being fundamentally flawed.

For example, just because you believe sex before marraige is immoral, doesn't mean you think it should be illegal. You could easily be left wing and think it's wrong.

Also, abortion has nothing to do with libertarianism or authoritarianism.

There's a lot of other "dodgy" questions aswell. Pity.

You can be conservative AND liberal at the same time!

The word "conservative" just means you want to kep things the way they are.

The opposite of being liberal is being authoritarian.

I'm very liberal and i'm also strongly in favour of the family. Liberalism has nothing to do with this.

I only agreed with everything in the personal issues one. In the economic issues i dissagreed with some. I knew already i was socially libertarian. I don't think the government have a right to interfere with our personal lives.

The way i see it left or right doesn't really matter. When people here say they hate right wingers i think a lot of them mean they actually hate "up" wingers.
