Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Nasal Fracture

    Hi there,
    I received a nasal fracture (broken nose) through martial arts last week. So I went to the a+e and they told me it what I already suspected, that it was broken. They said that it would takes a few days for the swelling to go down before they can do anything which was echoed in the research I did on the subject which is that it is reset and held in place. The a+e department said they would contact me they haven't yet. To be clear in keeping with the charter I'm not looking for medical advice, I'm just curious what other peoples experiences have being who have had their nose broken? Why whenever ask anybody about they don't seem to be taking me seriously? I'm getting quite frustrated about the lack of info on where I can get the treatment of this fast tracked. Again what are peoples experiences?

    Leaving the nose and swelling to settle down is a good idea. An indication for corrective surgery would be if there was a nasal airway obsrtuction due to the deformity. With all the post trauma swelling it would be next to impossible/more difficult to surgically correct early too, so the standard of care is usually to let the swelling go down and surgically correct at least 2 weeks after the incident
    Personally I would not undergo an anaesthetic to correct my deformed nose, if I am able to breathe through it.
    An initial trip to your GP would have resulted in no trip to A+E and an outpatient referral to an ENT surgeon.

    Why is that? If a surgeon thought that would he refuse to do the op? Ability to breath or not I'd prefer to have nose set to its original state.

    As it turns out, after contacting the a+e, I have a an appointment with an ent surgeon. Thanks for the reply.
