Just wondering what would be the penalty for first having no tax,and no insurance and no provisional license yet you've had the car for 6 months.
This isn't me I know someone thats doing it though and was just curious what they'd get if they were caught?

hefty fine in region of €500=€2,000 and disqualification of up to 2 years. Car would be seized at the roadside by the guards. Fee for that is €125 for first 24hrs and €35 for every 24 hrs till the owner gets it insured and taxed and proves it at the station

No insurance is mandatory court appearance plus 5 points.
No driving licence is 2 points or 5 if convicted in court
Think no tax is 1 or 2 points

Judge would throw the book at someone in this position and rightly so!
Expect hefty fines and driving ban

any judge would throw the book at the person doing this and rightly so to be honest. I try not to get on the high horse here but he is a danger to other users, he doesnt have a licence to drive so obviously not bothered to do the driving thing with a bit of responsibility.

Also if he injures someone they can sue him for all costs of injury which could be in the very large figure depending on the injury.

My view on these people is that they have no respect as to the responsibilities that we have as drivers on the road. The person you know probably just wants to drive and thats it to show off and stuff but if people knew what hes doing they would probably think hes a d**k.

If he injures someone everyone else has to pay the compensation through the Insurance Bureau, cos every insurance company pays into the bureau to cover this. so in the end WE pay the compensation and the offender gets away with a relatively low penalty really.

Agree - tell person to cop on and do what we all have to do, get a licence, get tax and most important get Insurance

Your one is a sitting duck driving around this day and age with no screeds.

Cops are very quick to catch these guys now with these new ANPR cameras. They can tell within seconds if the car is untaxed, uninsured or stolen as the data is sent through the Garda pulse system. Currently there are Garda cars and New Gatso vans driving all over the place with this technology.

Also if that shila is stupid enough to cross the Westlink toll gantry fitted with ANPR cameras the data is recorded for up to five years. she will be hanging herself if she wanted to declare that the car was ever off the road. Apart from all this if she mamed someone he would never hear the end of it.

he can be brought to the civil court and damages taken there but ultimately you are right that we are paying for his mistake.

Are there many people that still do this? I would think it is very hard to get away with these day

As well as the legal and monetary repercussions what if she is involved or causes an accident that injures a third party when she shouldnt be on the road in the first place? Could she live with the guilt if due to her actions someone else had to suffer due to loss of life or handicapped for the rest of their life. Something else she should think about before she hops into the car.

A guy with no tax and no insurance crashed into me a few years back - and didn't produce his licence. Penalty was €250 and a 3 month ban.
