Megaman GU10 Bulbs...

    Hi,

I just bought 3 Megaman GU10 11 watt 'warm white' bulbs from B&Q. I wanted to try them before I splash out on about 14 more on ebay.

    Two things:
    1) Only one bulb gives out a 'warm white' colour, the other two are bright white (which I dont like). However they are identical specs on the boxes. Is it hit and miss with these bulbs or should I bring them back? Im worried that if I order 14 more, some will be waem white and the others will be bright white.

    2) Are there any other good alternatives to Megaman? light output v wattage v colour

    Thanks.

    A1:
No its not hit and miss, the megaman lamps should match the specs as stated on the boxes, either there is an unusual mistake , or you may have over looked the temperature spec on the boxes.

    A2:
Not that I know, if there was I doubt you'd save a whole lot. Wholesalers might offer better value compared to B&Q, you might consider some LED lights as an alternative, but in short megaman are the CFL option and if there are others then i dont think you'd save much, and there are quality and efficiency issues with the cheaper CFLs that you'd need to watch for

i have found the megaman bulbs to be considerable larger/bulkier then other brands, however megaman are one of the only brands that do a dimable gu10 cfl. as stoner says check the colour temp on the box, as far as i can tell your looking for warm white and you have bought cool white or daylight. the coulour your looking for is around 827/ 835. which is generally referenced when refering to the colour.
an alternative brand would be eclipse or lumilux

Thanks Stoner and NorthDublin. All 3 boxes say 'warm white' but I will double check later to see if I missed a spec. I really want to get my lighting as energy efficient/bright as possible. Its a new build, with 16, possibly 19
gu10s throughout (depending on what I do with 3 lights on landing).

Thanks for the link. One of the shows is in Wexford, suits me. Energy efficient lighting is something worth investing in, so I will use 100 watt bulbs while im painting etc and fit energy savers later.
