Digital camera - needs to be cleaned. Void warranty?

As it is the camera works perfectly but the shutter is stuck open.
Basically I have had some problems with the camera before and needed to have it repaired (no fault of my own). But I'm worried if I send it off to be cleaned it will void my warrenty, and I have a feeling it may have to be repaired again at some stage...
Also has anyone had their camera opened up and cleaned? How much did it cost?
