Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    ok...

really need some advice. i'm 22, and at the moment studying toward an ordinary Bsc degree in Information Technology. Kind of undecided with what to do with my life, and thinking I'd like to join the Guards (mainly for the job satisfaction).

so, if I wanted to enter the guards at the end of this academic year when I was finished my degree, when would I have to apply??

would there be opportunities to put my IT skills to use, ie; computer forensics etc??

how long would I be in Templemore / Training etc (after 3 years of college kinda just wana start earning now)

also, how would my degree effect my salary?? would I be on higher money starting off?? and if so, what would that money be, roughly...

any help with these would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks in advance :D

Check out www.garda.ie and trawl through the threads in this forum. They should answer your q's!

Have a look at the threads on this forum (Garda Recruitment), and ask q's if they haven't already been answered.

You apply when a campaign comes up. To apply, you must register your details at www.publicjobs.ie They will notify of a campaign, and you apply online through them.

You probably could specialise in IT after a few years. However, I'm not entirely sure of IT sections in the Gardai, so best ask on the ES forum or in this recruitment forum.

Garda training: There is a pdf document over on publicjobs.ie that gives details. As regards pay; you won't start earning any real money until you are attested and become a probationer. http://www.publicjobs.ie/downloads/08012_Notes_for_Candidates.pdf

Yes, you would be entitled to a higher pay increment due to degree. I'm not sure of details.

Hope this helps, I plan on applying for the next campaign too. I got as much info about the job as I could through talking to local Gardai, and just finding every scrap of info I could. You should do the same! Good luck:)
