Bi Plane Flight

My OH is a commercial airline pilot, and is as I call him, a fully fledged aero -sexual! He has a big interest in what I would call world war type planes - his idea of heaven is a trip to Duxford. You get the picture.

Anyhow, he has a big birthday coming up, and I was thinking of getting him one of those "day's out" type deals, where he could fly in a bi-plane. Not being that much "into" aviation as he is (sorry...) I was wondering if any one could recommend a company who deals with this. I've googled a few, but as I said, I'm no expert, so if anyone has any experience of dealing with any of these companies, or could advise me on what to look out for, I would be most grateful.

    Also open to other suggestions..

    Thanks...

Can we have some more information? Are you Ireland or UK based? If Ireland why not give the Irish Air Corps a ring and get a Base visit and a trip to the Museum, well when i say Museum its a Hanger with alot of priceless EX Air Corps Aircraft/Equipment in there that are extremely well preserved due to the tireless efforts of the gents and ladies in the Don, never been myself but hope to one day.

Honestly, you won't find many (or any) biplane operators in Ireland. If he loves aerobatics, the Pitts S2A/B/C is the ne plus ultra of biplanes. There are few Pitts operators in the UK, of which Alan Cassidy is the most well-known.

Also, I'd recommend asking the same question on the GA section of www.flyer.co.uk - you'll get a better answer there.

Ireland based, but from my googling efforts it would appear that a trip to the UK is necessary to take up one of these packages.

I didn't realise that the air corps would allow site visits, that's a day out sorted anyway - thanks!

I dont think it would be a problem as you can see from here:http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1576

It doesnt hurt to ask, have you tried the Flying Boat Museum in Foynes?

Why not combine both, a trip to Duxford and a jolly with Classic Wings.
With Ryanair to Stansted and taxi/car hire, a day trip to Duxford is possible.

Stansted is about 25/30kms. from Duxford.
