Hi all, I was wondering if you could give me some advice.

Myself and Xavi6 (a commom member round these parts) have a football site but basically want to take it to the next level. We're not too chuffed about the designs at the minute and aren't exactly made of money. The files and all that jazz are on a person's private server who has since given up on our project, and with the files on her server she won't let any stranger move in and design so we are told we should start again.

Some say we should start again on professional hosting and get decent designs and then switch all our old articles from the old site to the new one, if this was the route to take where do you suggest we start and what do you think would be the smartest thing to do?

Also, if anyone is a dab hand at web design volunteers are welcome to this project! :pac:

    Thanks lads,
    ED

Hosting specific discussion is not permitted on this forum, nor are solicitations for work. If you want to use adverts to look for someone feel free to do so.

Presuming that its the FFN site in your sig, you shouldn't have any trouble getting Joomla installed on a server (most should offer it as an automatic installation, meaning you'll have little leg work to do) and import your data into that. After that just change the domain records to the new server (your domain host should be able to help with that).

Thanks for the quick reply Aidan, what would you recommend we do with the designs?

    ?

She won't give you the files and database so you can host it elsewhere?

No she will do that, but understandably she won't, well it would be crazy to anyway, is to give a stranger access to her server. So either way we'll have to get a professional host whether we start again or just move everything.

What's the traffic like on the website?

We want to get the main site finished before investing in advertising.

So the traffic is whoever happens to click the link on various forums like this one.
