Did anyone watch the sex education show that was on last night on channel 4? It was really interesting, had various topics, including I.V.F.. The one thing I found really interesting was on the show the reporter went for a fertility test and the outcome was that she had low fertility, which at 37, didnt seem to surprise the specialist she saw.

Aonther piece of information I found surprising was that the age your mother began menopause, determines how late you should leave it before starting a baby. Ie: if your mam started menopause at 48 years old, you subtract 10 years from that, therefore you have until your around 38 years old to try for a child. About 74% of people in the audience knew what age they mothers started menopause. Would you know?

I know when but only because she told me years later, I didn't really realize at the time.

My mam had to have a hysterectomy in her early forties - so I won't be able to calculate my child bearing years based on that formula - do you reckon it would continue on up to my gran too - if I was to ask her how old she was:confused:

My mother hasn't gone through it yet, she's still fairly young, but I'm sure she'll let me know when she does. My mother in law made no secret of the fact she was going through hers, I'd like to think I'd be the same, don't see the point in trying to hide it.

    LOL :D
Hmmm... I think she may have been in her mid to late 40s. It was around that time she was talking a lot about HRT.

How come you find that particularly interesting OP?

Yep I saw this - its a really interesting series!

Not sure about mum, I think I remember her going through hers when I was about 13.. which would have made her 53... although she had me, her first child at 40 and my sister at 44 so being 21 I dont think I have anything to worry about for a loooooong time!!!!

My mam got hers at 50 and she'll be 54 this November!!! I remember hers well as she thought she was expecting again!!! You can just picture the scene in your head now with my 50 year old mam and me at 24 years of age awaiting a pregnancy test result. I actually remained very calm throughout the whole scare!!! I know I shouldn't really say this, but i really envy her not having to worry about periods anymore - although she does get symptoms of weakness or hot flushes when she's in a crowded building and has to leave quickly. I'm 28 at the moment so i guess i have up until i'm 40!!! if that's right??

    I'm screwed...
