Not sure if you will find this useful or not but it is a simple free utility that plugs into windows/mac and can extract the jpeg file that most camera manufacturers embed in raw files. I only just installed it but it seems very fast at getting the files out.
It could be very useful for making fast high quality jpegs for proofs/contact sheets for yourself/client.
