So going for finance on a new car and just wondering, giving the recent state of the finance world, what would be considered a decent APR on a car lone these days?

Think about over a 4 year period? ;)

Depends on whether you are looking for fixed or variable..

The best I could find at the time I was looking was with tesco personal loans @ 6.9% fixed, I just checked now and it's still available...

Try the financial regulators site: http://www.itsyourmoney.ie/costcomparisons.jsp

It offers comparisions of all the banks.....

Hum they don't list car loans tho, only Personal Loans. Sometimes it can be a pretty big different between both.

    Just looked at aib.ie, boi.ie and ptsb.ie.

They all have rates listed for motor loans, based on how long you're borrowing for and how much you're borrowing.

should be able to get 7 or 7.5, assuming you can qualify for a loan with the stricter current criteria.

The 6.9% at Tesco is the best around. Just don't expect the cash in a hurry.

It is underwritten by Ulster Bank in the north and all documentation has to go up there. They are really busy because the rate is so low so it was over a week before they got to look at my application.

6.5% from your local credit union, on a reducing balance - hard to beat.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
