catalytic converters

Anybody any recommendations where to buy catalytic converters for a Toyota Avensis? Costing a large amount of money to go through main dealer, so looking to buy online and our local mechanic will fit it. Was looking at Cats 4 Less.co.uk - is it any good or do you guys have other recommendations?

They give a 5 year warranty, one of my customers bought a cat from them and there were no problems with it.

Watch out for some of them spurious stuff, sometimes they won't fit cos its the wrong one.

shouldent the car of came with one ? or was it deacated ? best off getting a second hand one , of a broken 1

Its broken and needs replacing... so says the results of the Engine Management Light

Loca breakers yard would be my first port of call and it would be much much cheaper than buying new.

hmmmm Don't think I'd be too pushed about fitting a cat from a breakers yard. I'd figure it was likely to be gone inside a week.

It would really want to seriously cheap!

you only really need it for the nct so what a lot of people are doing is borrowing one for the test then putting back on the old one once its passed. I'd never do that of course since its illegal but lots of people are.

It may last for the remainder of your ownership of the car. I wouldnt be paying silly money for a cat for an Avensis. Just out of curiousity what year/model avensis is it?

And it might not be working at all, even to get you through the NCT, and if it is it may not be working a week later so you could be selling a car with the engine management light glaring at prospective buyers....... :rolleyes:

Apparently its bad for fuel efficency. But its an 03 Avensis.

I drove a TDi Passat for years with the cat removed after it had failed at 60,000 miles. The car has gone through NCT's without any problems and did so last April with the new owner at 250,000 miles.

An internally broken cat will generally obstruct exhaust flow, making the car feel strangled.
