The Exeo is being marketed as a Mondeo competitor. Back in 2001 if you put the then newly launched Mondeo and A4 (on which the Exeo is based) side by side, the A4 was significantly smaller. If you got into each car, you would have noticed the difference in size even more, particularly in the back. The latest generation Mondeo is bigger still. It wasn't just the Mondeo, the old A4 was already smaller than most of the previous generation of D-segment cars, most of which have recently been replaced by larger models or have replacements imminent. If I was looking for a current model Ford comparable in size to the Exeo, I'd have to chose the Focus saloon. This is where the problem lies, the Exeo is a mismatch to the segment it's being marketed in.
Other examples of cars marketed in the D segment that really weren't big enough but were supposed to compete on a high spec yet still value for money basis include the previous generation Seat Toledo (4 door Walter DaSilva styled version), the Fiat Marea, the Daewoo Nuberia, the Hyundai Lantra and Elantra. It reads like a who's who of depreciation timebombs.

All in all, as it wont have the Audi rings It wont compete on market positioning. Its like the toyota lexus debacle with the Altezza and IS200. Both the same bodyshape but one a cheaper knock off of the other or vice versa.
Well, you're not quite right with the Altezza/IS200 comparision, as they're not a "knock off" of the other, in that case it's just that Japanese (rightly) have no weight on a badge, it's the car they look at, so it's just sold as an Altezza over there, where as here they had to stick a Lexus badge on it before people took it seriously.
This is more like the Ford Fiesta / Mazda 121 comparison!

Not really. The Ford Fiesta and Mazda 121 were sold at the same time. A better example would be the late 1980's Mazda 121

later sold as a Kia Pride in the 1990's

Or the mid 1980's Opel Kadette

later sold as a Daewoo Nexia in the 1990's

Check out the heads up display.

It has a full tank but can only do another 640km before the tank is empty.

    Terrible. LOL
