It's to let everyone else know it's been dealt with. So to stop reports...yeah.

Get over it ,I'd say myself.

Could the code not be edited so that once a post has been reported the ability to do so is removed and a Message Says "Post already reported. Thank you for YOur Concern" Something akin to the way the Polls work ala only voting once?

I'd whack out the coding my self except I don't actually know diddly squat about vbCode'in. I was a pascal baby myself.

It's useful to allow posts to be reported a number of times. Sometimes it highlights a particularly bad post (porn or the like) or it may sway a moderator into acting on a post that may be just on the line.

I can see the benefits of that all righty, was just a thought.

its a very good ideo imo.

It lets other users become familiar with what is "unacceptable"

  • Registered Users Posts: 26,458 ✭✭✭✭gandalf

Its actually good from the point of view of transparancy and useful as said above to show others what is not acceptable.

I think it'd a good thing to have.

and of course, you could just delete the post(as a mod), but then you'd have the average joe bitching. you can just never keep them happy...

Then you end up with every report being equal until the thread is read. Also, you'd end up with situations where one reader comes on and reports it as 'What a tosser!!!' and the next reader wants to put in a useful report such as 'Appears to be a shill. Has promoted this product on a number of threads recently.' but can't.

its also useful as it tells em which post crossed the line (or was the final straw)

It would be nice if the infraction was shown on the left with the posters details so that it followed him everywhere he posted until it expired. Nothing like a bit of public humiliation to focus the mind, like the stocks of old. Taking it a step further a number on the card to indicate the number of active infractions would be even better. If I saw a poster with a red card with a number 4 on it, or possibly 4 red cards, indicating 4 active infractions, I have a pretty good idea how to treat him in a borderline case where otherwise he might have got the benefit of the doubt.

They'd just become collectors items, IMO. No such thing as bad publicity and all that.

    Actually, you have a point.

A few people would probably see them just like that ... "See my scars? I got this one for ... "

Plus eejits would start playing the game of "how far can I push the infractions without actually getting site-banned".

It would really only be useful to have them visible to mods, but I would have presumed that already happened?

    What's the reasoning behind this?

    For example; http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=57402300&postcount=8

Do I need to know this guy is a muppet? Or is it just to stop further reporting of the post?

Oh BOO HOO HOO, I dont want to see bad stuff! :(

    Get over it will ya?

You could be right but it would be a very dangerous game to play. Many mods would stop playing nice guy with muppets. If it wasn't too much work it might be worth trying for a month to see how it works out.

Can't mods just click through a profile to see infractions anyway?
